Application & Installation Instructions
COALESCENT OIL SEPARATORS
Product Description
The purpose of a coalescing oil separator is to remove
oil particles from a stream of refrigerant vapour and
allow the oil to be returned, directly or indirectly, to the
compressor.
Inlet
Coalescent separation describes the merging of smaller

which then gather sufficient mass to be removed from

the gas stream through gravitational separation in the
filter walls.
Henry Coalescent Oil Separators are suitable for use
with HCFC, HFC, A2L and CO
their associated oils.
New Unit Installation
On units with replaceable filters, the filter is supplied
inside the vessel, loosely fitted. Remove the filter before
2
brazing the vessel to the pipework to avoid filter
damage.
All products need to be wet ragged when brazing into
the pipework to protect the paint.
On hermetic units, the filter core must be protected from
1
heat damage.
Installation and servicing should only be carried out by a
suitably qualified or experienced engineer.

Ensure separator is isolated and free of
pressure.
Pump down the system completely.
CAUTION: Failure to do so could result in
serious injury.

3.
Recover or recycle refrigerant from separator.
4.
Remove bolts and cover plate. Be cautious of
any residual pressure.
5.
Protect your hand (with suitable gloves).
6.
Remove filter retaining nut and seal washer.
(nut to be re-used if not damaged)
7.
Remove used filter and O-ring, dispose of
responsibly.
8.
Ensure filter sealing face is clean and free of
debris.
9.
Insert new Henry replacement filter. Lightly oil
filter O-ring with refrigerant oil.
10. Check to see if filter is sitting central to filter
base.
11. Install new sealing washer and existing M5 or
M10 filter nyloc nut (if not damaged). Tighten
nyloc until filter does not turn. Further tighten
nyloc another 1 to 1 ½ turns.
NOTE: After multiple uses the nyloc may start
to lose its resistance to vibration. If you have a
concern when fitting the components then the
nyloc nut (M5 or M10) should be replaced.
12. Remove old gasket or O-ring from cover plate.
13. Lightly oil new gasket or O-ring with refrigerant
oil and insert into groove of cover plate.
14. Pre-charge separator, fill to top sight glass.
15. Re-attach cover plate and tighten all cover
plate bolts in a star like pattern – Torque to
46Nm (Torque to 24Nm for HCOS-028R)
16. Leak test separator before restarting system.
CAUTION: Failure to do so will result in
loss of refrigerant.
17. Monitor pressure drop and oil levels frequently.
18. The filter can be safely used until the pressure
drop across the unit reaches 0.9 bar (13 PSI).
At this point, the filter should be replaced.
