Chapter 5. Special keys

The following table describes the functions of function keys and key combinations.

Special key Description
Switch the function of the F1–F12 keys between the standard function and special function printed

as an icon on each key.
When the Fn Lock indicator is on:
• Press F1-F12 to use the standard function.
• Press Fn+F1-F12 to use the special function.
When the Fn Lock indicator is off:
• Press Fn+F1-F12 to use the standard function.
• Press F1-F12 to use the special function.
Mutes or unmutes the speakers.
When the key indicator is on, the speakers are muted.
If you mute the speakers and turn off your computer, the speakers remain muted when you turn on
your computer.
Decreases the speaker volume.
Increases the speaker volume.
Mutes or unmutes the microphones.
Darkens the display.
Brightens the display.
Manage external displays.
Enables or disables the built-in wireless networking features.
Open the Settings window.
F9
Enable or disable the built-in Bluetooth features.

Open a keyboard setting page.
F11
Invoke the function defined by yourself.
F12
Open Lenovo Vantage, and you can define different functions for the user-defined key.
Open the Snipping Tool program.

Fn+Spacebar If your computer supports keyboard backlight, press Fn+Spacebar to switch between the different
keyboard backlight status.
