The most effective method of minimizing
shake with long telephotos is the use of a
good,
solid tripod
.
Excellent results can be obtained
by hand holding telephotos up to 200mm if
held carefully
.
Horizontal Handheld Shooting: Rest the mount
section of the body and as much of the lens
as possible in the palm of your left hand with
f ingers extended for operating the focus
rin.

When you are ready to release the
shutter,
bring both of your elbows in as closely as
possible against your body for firm
support.
When handholding telephotos in excess of
300mm
,
stand with your legs spread as if you
were firing a
pistol,
and shoot at a slightly
leftward angle for added
support.
Vertical Shooting with Telephotos
:
Support
the lens with your left hand as shown in the
photo on the right
below.
Added support will
be given by holding the camera flat against
your forehead
.
Handheld telephoto shooting w ill require
some practice
;
but
perfect,
blur-free shots are
possible in this manner w ith up to 300mm
telephoto
.
