Vidikron home theater display. We hope you find that the VDP-80-720 exceeds your expectations. The primary functions of the VDP-80-720 are to act as a video switcher, process the selected input, and output in the appropriate format and resolution. Standard definition (SD), enhanced-definition (ED) and high-definition (HD) video inputs are all supported in addition to a number of PC formats.

When the LCD is set to “activity” it illuminates for a short time after commands are received. When the LCD is set to “power” it stays illuminated as long as the VDP-80-720 is on, turning off briefly when a command is received.

POWER BUTTON Press this button to toggle between normal, “power on” mode and standby mode. (The VDP-80-720 takes about 8 to 10 seconds to enter standby mode.) RS-232 CONTROL (9-pin, male D-Sub) A male, 9-pin D-sub connector for interfacing with a PC or home theater automation/control system.

Press this button during the display of the main menu to go to a submenu. Also used to select a highlighted menu item or confirm a changed setting. If no menu is visible on-screen, press OK to have the VDP-80-720 display the currently-active input and configuration memory, vertical frequency, aspect ratio and signal format (for example, “INPUT 4 ISF NIGHT 60 16:9 NTSC”).

• Component DVD sources provide the best standard-definition picture quality. S-Video sources are often a bigger challenge and therefore can show more improvement using the VDP-80-720. Since for many satellite receivers, and other video sources, SVideo is the best output, improved SVideo performance is important for many installations.

Proceed as follows to connect the VDP-80-720 to your display device(s), video sources, external controller(s) -- if present -- and AC power. When connecting your equipment: • Turn off all equipment before making any connections. • Use the correct signal cables for each source.
Connecting the VDP-80-720 to Source Components Connect your video sources to the VDP-80-720 as described in the sections that follow. DVI-D Connections: The VDP-80-720 has two DVI-D inputs for connecting a DVD player, DTV decoder, personal computer or any other device with a DVI or HDMI output. Connect such devices to Inputs 1 and/or 2;...

This VDP-80-720 may not be able to display images from notebook computers in simultaneous (external/internal display) mode. Should this occur, configure the notebook computer to drive the external display device only.
Installation Component Video Connections: The VDP-80-720 has four, YPrPb component inputs for connecting a DVD player or DTV decoder with a component output. Connect such devices to Inputs 3, 4, 7 and/or 8; see Figure 3-4. Inputs 3 and 4 accept either SD or HD signals; Inputs 7 and 8 accept SD signals only.
Composite/S-Video Connections: Connect your S-Video or Composite video sources (VCR, camcorder, laser disc player etc.) to Inputs 5, 6, 7 and/or 8 on the VDP-80-720 as shown in Figure 3-5. Use the Y connector for composite video sources; use the Y and C connectors for S-Video sources.

To change the aspect ratio (size and shape) of the displayed image, do either of the following: • Press the left- or right-arrow buttons on the VDP-80-720 remote control. • Use the aspect ratio selection buttons on the remote control LCD touch screen (see Figure 2-3).

To return to the previous menu, press EXIT. If the Main Menu is on-screen, pressing EXIT hides the OSD menu. The VDP-80-720 OSD menus are arranged hierarchically, as shown in Figure 4-1. Depending on the selected input source and signal characteristics, some menu options may not be available.

The Main Menu is the starting point for accessing all VDP-80-720 functions. Before calibrating the VDP-80-720 inputs, you must specify what type of signals are being supplied to each of them. To do this: Select a source input using the number buttons on the remote control (see Figure 2-3).

(PASS), or to not report EDID data at all (OFF). This command selects which option to use. HOT-PLUG: Each VDP-80-720 DVI input sends a signal (HOTPLUG) back to the DVI source to inform the source to drive its DVI output. However, different sources react differently to the Hotplug signal.
The range is 0 to 10; the default setting is 5. When you select an input on the VDP-80-720, a message appears on-screen to indicate which input you selected. To prevent this from happening, select Input Display from the Options menu and set it to OFF.
Otherwise, the change will be lost when the VDP-80-720 is powered off. To restore the VDP-80-720 to its factory-default state, select Defaults from the Save Settings menu and press OK. Press OK again to confirm this action or EXIT to cancel.
