The AccuMAX™ XS-555/L luminance sensor
detector is used to determine the required illumination
of radiographic film viewing equipment such as film
illuminators, backlit panels, and transilluminators.
Available as an accessory to the AccuMAX™ XR-1000
or XF-1000 digital readout unit, the XS-555/L sensor
detector accurately measures visible luminance
in candelas per square meter (cd/m²), candelas
per square foot (cd/ft²), or in footlamberts (fL).

PREPARING FOR USE

REFER to the OPERATOR'S MANUAL (AccuMAX™
XRP-3000 or AccuMAX™ Meter Series) for detailed
use of the readout unit (XR-1000 or XF-1000).
1. Attach a user-supplied standard USB cable by
pressing the male terminal connector to the top of
the readout unit and the female port to the bottom
of the luminance sensor detector. The water-
resistant sensor adapter cable (XCB-100), available
separately or as part of the XRP-3000 NDT kit, may
be used as well.
2. REVIEW Section 3 in the manual for more details.
3. Press and hold the ON/OFF button to establish
connection (Review Section 6 in manual).
4. To customize your choice of luminance reading units
in cd/m², cd/ft² or fL, perform the following:
5. Highlight SETTINGS with DOWN button; press
ENTER.
6. With UNITS highlighted, press ENTER.
7. With VIS Luminance highlighted, press ENTER to
highlight UNITS.
8. Use UP or DOWN buttons to change the unit of
measure.
9. With desired UNIT highlighted, press ENTER.

10. Press DOWN to highlight EXIT. P
11. Press ENTER to save your choice of units and
to return to OPERATION/SETTINGS.

adjustments.

USING THE LUMINANCE SENSOR DETECTOR

Cover the sensor window to reach 0.00 before
taking reading.
1. ZERO unit: Cover the sensor window and press
ZERO when stabilized.
2. Hold the XS-555L detector with the sensor
window against the film illuminator to be
measured.
3. When the readout is within ±5 cd/m², cd/ft², or
fL, press HOLD to obtain the reading.
4. Press PEAK to obtain the peak reading, if
desired.
5. Press LIVE to return to ZERO mode, then
press NORM to return to NORMAL mode.

SENSOR GUARD (RP-SG-02)

XS-555/L includes 2 Sensor Guards -1 & 1 spare-
(P/N RP-SG-02) that can be applied to the sensor to act
as a gentle buffer between the sensor and a Computer
Radiography Monitor. Peel the sticker backing from the
Sensor Guard and apply to sensor by aligning the cutout
over the sensor hole.

The warranty policy for the AccuMAX™ XS-555/L
luminance sensor detector is provided on the
Certificate of Limited Warranty enclosed separately
with each unit.
