2.6.4 Compressor The three-stage oil free compressor is designed by Kim Dalum. It is manufactured in stainless steel to improve its lifespan and keep the product clean and the fact that it is oil free eliminates the risk of contaminating the CO2. Every component is food grade quality and qualified.

2.6.6 Scrubber The scrubber is one of the stages for purifying the CO2. It is the first component that the gas from the fermentation tank enters. There are many kinds of scrubbers, but the scrubber used on the DALUM CO2 Unit is designed by Kim Dalum. The gas is washed/flushed with fresh water and flowing through a filter, thereby removing some of the unwanted substances/molecules from the brewing process.
  • Page 16: Dehydrator

2.6.9 Sulfur filter This is another stage for purification of the CO2. The sulfur filter lets the CO2 pass but filters many other unwanted substances on the way through. This is designed by Kim Dalum and built by Dalum Beverage Equipment.
  • Page 17: Electrical Components

Most of the electrical components can be found in the electrical cabinet, but some are also mounted in various places on the Unit. The DALUM CO2 Recovery Unit has both a high voltage 230V circuit and low voltage 24V circuit.

  • Page 22: Coolant Connection

Tank connection When connecting the tank there are three main points: 1. The liquid CO2 outlet from the CO2 Unit is a 46-bar pressurized 6x1 mm seamless stainless-steel pipe connected and joint by compression fittings. The transfer Valve 06VA40 should be placed as close to the Storage Tank Liquid Filling line as possible and the pipe must be insulated by at least 30 mm insulation.

Dalum with proper tank documentation before connecting to the unit. 3. The Storage tank must have an economizer for flash gas return. If not contact Dalum or the tank supplier for installation. Flash gas return from the tank economizer is a low pressure (below 0,5 bar) tube or pipe with 8-10 mm opening connected to the inlet at the Pressure Relief Valve on the feed gas line.

Inspection and Maintenance Carry out inspection and maintenance on the DALUM CO2 Recovery Unit with regular intervals. • Maintenance and repair work must be performed by trained and qualified people. • Make sure that the system is depressurized before maintenance work.
  • Page 37: Planned Maintenance

The Sulfur filter has an operation time of 2 years before it is needed to replace the active carbon. Pressure relief valve for the CO2 collection circuit, which is located before the gas reaches the Unit should be cleaned every 3 month to avoid sticking problems from glucose.
  • Page 38: Routine Check

Routine check When the CO2 Unit is in operation, there are multiple temperatures and pressures to keep track of to make sure that the process is running optimally. Most of the information can be seen on the Mimic Diagram, and additional information can be seen when zoomed in on a specific component.
  • Page 39: Risk Assessment

The CO2 recapture system utilizes various components, such as compressor, pipelines, and storage tanks, which can malfunction or fail. Such failures can lead to the release of CO2 gas, posing risks to workers and creating asphyxiation hazards in poorly ventilated areas. Regular inspections, maintenance, and testing are necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the system and identify and address any potential issues.
  • Page 40: Regulatory Compliance

Cost-effectiveness: The installation and operation of CO2 capture systems can be expensive. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct a cost-benefit analysis that evaluates the expected benefits of the system, such as reduced carbon emissions, increased efficiency, and safe supply, against the costs of installation, operation, and maintenance.
