Additional safety instructions for adjustable
dadoes.
1_.
Do
not operate at
speed
greater than 4500 rpm.
2. Never
operate
on a
radial
saw
unless the proper
guard
is
installed
and
properly adjusted:
—Sawblade
guard
for
top-side operations (dado
vertica|—perpendicu|ar
to the table).
When
ploughing (rip-type cut:
dado
stationary
and
work slid along the fence), adjust the
nose
of
the guard
and
then the spreader
and
anti-
kickback
pawls
to just clear the top surface of
the workpiece.
Molding
and Dado Guard
#29523 for
edge op-
erations (motor arbor vertical).
3.
Do
not operate
on
a
table
saw
unless
a
dado
insert
is
installed
and
properly adjusted.
4. Replace the sawblade guard
on
a
table
saw
im-
mediately after completing the
dado
operation.
5. Never
tilt
(bevel) the dado
on a
table
saw
with
power 'ON'.
6. Rotate
the dado
one
full turn
by hand
before
plugging
in
electric
power and
turning
saw
'ON'
to
be
sure
it turns freely
and does
not
strike
any
part of the table, insert, guard,
or
motor housing.
7. Never
elevate
the
dado
on a
table
saw so
that
any
portion of the
hub extends
into the slot of the
insert.
8. When
the workpiece
is warped, place
the
concave
side down against table.
DO
NOT
dado
or
plough
with
concave
side
up—the
work
can
roll,
and
grabbing
or
a
kickback could result.
9. Never
perform
a
cut
on a
table
saw
that will
allow
the dado to cut entirely through the workpiece.
10. Use
a
pushstick
for
all plough cuts (sliding
ma-
terial along fence) that
would place your
hand
or
fingers within six
inches of the dado.
11.
Do
not cut stone, masonry,
or
metal of any kind.
Use
dado
for
wood, wood products, and
plastic
only.
12.
BE POSITIVE
you
provide adequate hold
down of
the work to the table
when
ploughing.
13. Never
use
both the
miter
gage and
the rip fence
on
a
table
saw
for
the
same
operation
use one
or
the other.
14. Use
a
wood
facing
on
the fence
when
rabbeting
on
a
table
saw.
Cut into the fence say
1/16",
when
rabbeting
on a
radial
saw. For
either type
saw,
ALWAYS
position dado
on
the fence
edge
of the
work
to prevent binding of workpiece.
INSTALLATION
OF
DADO ON SAW.
WITH THE
POWER SWITCH
"OFF"
AND THE
POWER
CORD DISCONNECTED,
mount the Adjustable
Dado
on
a
radial-arm
or
table
saw
the
same
way
as a
circular
saw
blade. Remove
the spreader (splitter) of
a
table
saw.
A
bushing
is
furnished
for
use on
5/8
in. round
arbors.
Place
bushing
on
arbor
next
to the arbor flange
and position
the
dado. Check
arrows
for
correct direc-
tion of rotation. Mount the
nut, but do not
tighten.
If the arbor
is
not of
sufficient
length to
admit the
flange, place the arbor nut
directly
next
to the
dado
head,
omitting outer
flange.
(Do not
remove
the back
(inside) flange.)
Dial
the outer hub to the width of cut
desired. Select width to make
joint
fit
either
loose
or
tight,
depending
on
type of
joint
required.
TIGHTEN
ARBOR NUT
after setting
desired width of cut.
Install dado insert
on
table
saw,
or
blade
or
molding
head
guard
on
radial
saw.
Elevate dado above
table of
table
saw
to provide depth of cut desired. Rotate the
dado
one
full
turn
by hand before
plugging
in
electrical
power and
turning
saw
'ON'
to
be sure
the dado turns
freely
and does not
strike
any
part of the
saw,
including
the table, insert, guard,
or
motor housing.
To make
a
change in
width of cut, turn switch "OFF"
and
disconnect the power cord.
Loosen
arbor
nut, dial
the counter
hub
to width
desired, and re-tighten arbor
nut. Always rotate by hand
to check
clearance; check
each
new
setting
on
scrap wood before
cutting your
work
piece. For
additional information, refer to the
Craftsman Handbook of Circular
Saw
Blades and Power
Tool Accessories
that
is
enclosed
with this
accessory.
For
best performance and safest operation your dado
should
be
kept sharp.
A
dull
dado requires excessive
cutting
pressure and
will
break carbide
tips.
Handle
dado
with
care—avoid
bumping against hard objects
as
teeth
are
easily chipped.
Have dado
repaired im-
mediately
after
any tooth damage.
REFER TO
THE MODEL NUMBER
IN
ALL
CORRES-
PONDENCE REGARDING THIS DADO.
PACK DADO IN ORIGINAL BOX TO RETURN
FOR
SERVICING.
REPAIRED DADOES WILL NOT BE RE-CHROMED.
