    Chapter 2 Configuring Your System This chapter contains information on configuring your system. Configuring your system can consist of the following: ❑ Making changes to the BIOS settings. ❑ Making changes to the display's power management settings.

    Before rebooting the system, save and close all open files, and exit open applications. Reboot your computer by selecting Shut Down... from the Start menu, then selecting Restart.     Changing the Display's Power Management Settings A display that has power management capability is designed to operate on reduced power or shut itself off after the system has been idle for a specified period of time.     Chapter 3 Removing, Installing, and Replacing Components This chapter describes removing, installing, and replacing major components for upgrading, reconfiguring, and troubleshooting the components. Before opening the system unit, save and close all open files, exit all open applications, turn off the power to all attached peripheral devices, shut down the computer, and unplug the power cord.

You may need to replace the lithium battery if your computer consistently loses the date or time settings after turning it off.

If no error message displays, the computer’s BIOS settings were retained during the battery replacement and you can skip the remaining steps.

    Removing, Installing, and Replacing Components Removing a Memory Module You may need to remove a memory module if you change the memory configuration or replace a bad module. By default, all of your computer’s memory sockets are filled. It comes with a pair of RIMM modules and a pair of CRIMM modules.

Touch any exposed metal part of the chassis to discharge static electricity in your body before handling the memory module. Grasp one edge of the memory module and lift out.

Sony recommends an ATA-100 hard disk drive to take full advantage of the system's features. The hard disk drive access light blinks when either internal drive is active.

Slide the new drive into the bottom part of the drive holder and align the holes on each side of the drive holder. Secure the drive to the drive holder using screws in each of the two holes on each side of the drive holder (screws are provided with the new drive).
