Installation manual XST11A XST21A XST31A XST22X (W) XST32X APPROVED on 13-07-2021 Revision 03 Subject to change without notice. Latest version and additional information can be found online at www.group-ims.com...
If you have any questions or remarks about this manual or about your GreenSteering system, you can always contact us via info@group-ims.com. Never make presumptions. When in doubt, always contact GreenSteering. This document contains guidelines for installing the GreenSteering steering system in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the system.
AFETY AND ENVIRONMENT Safety regulations The installation of the GreenSteering system must be performed by qualified and experienced personnel. Make sure that the trailer conforms to all regulations (road regulations, company procedures, health and safety regulations). The trailer must be prevented from moving during installation or repair work. Please observe the relevant safety regulations for installation and/or repair work on commercial vehicles.
MPORTANT DIMENSIONS AND MEASUREMENT POINTS Dimensions In the design of a trailer with the GreenSteering system, the following dimensions are important: XST11A – XST21A – XST31A Page 7 of 35 D000057 - 03...

General tolerances Unless indicated otherwise, GreenSteering produces all its products according to general tolerances: For plate and tubing: DIN ISO 2768-1m For turning and milling: DIN ISO 2768-1f These tolerances are also applicable to the installation of the system. Measuring points GreenSteering uses the centre point of the kingpin as the zero point and always measures from the Y-axis...
RODUCTION PROCESS Depending on the production process in your company and the construction of the chassis, you can choose a version with bolt-on or weld-on assembly plates. A fully integrated system without using the GreenSteering assembly plate is also possible. GreenSteering steering module is always bolt-on.
REPARATION OF THE CHASSIS Hole pattern in the underside of the chassis During the preparation phase of the chassis, a number of holes are required. This depends on: The type of steering. The choice of weld-on, bolt-on or without assembly plate. ...
Welding parts on the chassis Warning: As every chassis can be constructed in a different way, GreenSteering cannot provide the yellow- marked parts and needs to be produced by the constructor. Steering module (Xm) The steering module must be assembled to the chassis in tensionless condition. Construct the structure of the chassis in such a way that no torsion can occur at the steering module.
Page 17
If the cross bars are attached to the steering module, it must be assured that these are completely adjacent and no tension must be caused in the steering module when attaching the eight bolts to assemble the steering module. In other words: the cross bar must support the steering module along the whole width and may not cause tension in the casing.
Weld-on assembly plate steering axle (Ab) See Chapter 7.1.1 for the main dimensions of types XST11A – XST21A – XST31A with weld-on assembly plates. See Chapter 7.1.2 for the main dimensions of the types XST22X – XST22XW – XST32X with weld-on assembly plates.

Reinforce the plates on top with the provided gusset plates. Finish welding according to the image below, or reinforce the chassis so that at least the same effect is reached. Warning: Except for attaching possible assembly plates for lubrication or other pipes, each adaptation to the axle frame must always be approved by GreenSteering in writing.
Weld-on rear steering bridge (Ab) Position The position of the rear steering bridge is always measured from the centre line of the rear Y/Y axis. The two holes for attaching the cable pulleys are 515 mm behind the centre line Y/Y The height (H3) is always equal to the steering wing above the steering axles.
Page 21
The weld-on steering bridge must be shortened to the size between the flanges of the chassis. Divide this size by two and measure from the centre point of the steering bridge left and right, in order to shorten both ends. The steering bridge has axis markings to indicate the axis with respect to the chassis.
Determining the height of the steering wing(s) and rear steering bridge (H3) XST11A – XST21A – XST31A Place the steering wing(s) and rear steering bridge as high as possible, taking the height of the cross bars and floor thickness into account. This in order to keep the angle of the cable between the steering module and the steering axle as small as possible.
XST11A – XST21A – XST31A with bolt-on assembly plates The bolt-on assembly plates for the attachment of the rear steering axle (Ab) Warning: For the assembly provisions to which the bolt-on assembly plates are mounted, GreenSteering recommends S355 material with a minimum thickness of 8 mm. For the attachment of the bolt-on steering bridge a S355 material with minimum thickness of 10 mm.
Weld-on or bolt-on assembly plates (Af & Ab) provided with supporting plates To resist the shearing forces of the turntables on the assembly plates these can be provided with four supporting plates per turntable. The instructions are below. Due to the big tolerance on the turntables size D1 may differ per delivery.
REPARING THE AXLE FRAME Preparing the axle mounting Weldable axle boxes and possible assembly plates for the air bellows are welded to the axle frames during the preparation. H1, H2 and L1 are depending on the axle type. L2 must be filled up, depending on the axle type. Place the axle boxes and air bellow assembly plates according to the drawings and assemble, reinforce and weld or bolt the axle boxes according to the assembly regulations of the axle manufacturer.
Preparing the steering wing (Af and/or Ab) Because the steering wing is always supplied to mount at maximum height, it is possible that the assembly profiles need to be shortened on both sides. Steering wing(s) with weld-on steering bridge Universal rear unit with steering wing: New rear unit without steering wing.
Shortening the steering wing(s) Shortening the steering wing (Af and/or Ab) (only if necessary). Limit the shortening of the steering wing to a minimum. Only saw or grind the part that can be removed if this is really necessary and do this in stages of 40 mm or a multitude of this, so the saw cut is always 24 mm under the lowest holes to use.
Preparing the assembly of the turntable To resist the shearing forces of the turntables on the assembly plates these can be provided with four supporting plates per turntable. The instructions are below. Due to the major tolerance on the turntables size D2 may vary per delivery.
Installation of the turning table First install the turning table to the axle seat. Hexagonal head bolt with full tread ISO 4017 – M16 x 45 – 10.9 – flZn Wedge lock washer large format M16 – Steel – flZn Ball race Axle seat Hexagon nut with metric coarse pitch thread...
HE CABLES XST11A – XST21A – XST31A The cable has a diameter of 16 mm. The cables that guide the axles start at the steering module and go via the sprocket up to the steering wing on the axle bearing. When measuring the cables in the chassis you must take account of the fact that the cables move inwards over a distance of 100 mm at the steering module and the steering wing when turning.
