System Switch UL-0265

8-port LAN-switch with PoE and PTPv2 Support

UL-0265 is a 10/100/1000 Mbps network switch with the following added
functionality:
• Power over Ethernet (PoE; 802.3af) enables the switch to power stand-alone
Lan-Xi Modules
UL-0265 senses if the LAN-XI modules need PoE and supplies power if
needed. Use the Web interface to change the default setting
• Precision Time Protocol (PTP; IEEE 1588–2009) synchronizes LAN-XI modules
and frames with each other at sample-level accuracy
PTP uses subdomains, so several independent PTP systems can run on the
same network
Each LAN-XI module can transfer data and be synchronized and powered with a
single twisted-pair Ethernet cable.

Web Interface

You can connect to the Web interface (a standard Web server) using a browser
such as Internet Explorer.
Note: If you cannot connect to the switch, you may need to change your
Computer's network settings to put it on the same domain as the switch and
access the switch via Web interface, see Computer Network Settings,
below.
1 With the computer connected to the switch, enter the switch IPv4 address
into the address line of the Web browser (the default IPv4 address is
192.168.200.1).
2 Enter the login credentials and click Login. The default login values are:
– User: "admin"
– Password: "" (the password field is left blank)
Note: To return to the default settings, press and hold the reset button for
10 seconds.

Default Values

PULSE Measurement System Switch has the following default values:
• IP address: 192.168.200.1
• Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Note: Press the RESET button (using a paperclip) on the front of the switch
to restore the default values.
Note: These values are used because they do not interfere with the
recommended address scheme used for LAN-XI addresses.

Subdomain

To connect several independent systems to the same network, they must have
different subdomains (use the Front-end Setup program (see LAN-XI help) to
set up LAN-XI modules and Web interface to set up the switch). The subdomain
is stored in the PC's registry and used next time a system is set up. The setup
program detects systems (which must be powered on) on the network that
already have that subdomain; you will be prompted to change the subdomain.

Computer Network Settings

To change the computer's network settings so it is on the same domain as the
Switch:
1 Click Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and
Sharing Center.
2 Click the Connections: link to open the connection status window.
3 Click the Properties button.
4 Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
Note: You will need to remember or make a note of the current settings to
return to that configuration.
5 Select Use the following IP address and enter an IP address.
Note: Best practice is:
– IP address: 192.168.201.1. (See Setting Static IP Addresses for more
information)
– Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
6 Click OK.
To return to the previous configuration, follow steps 1 – 4, re-enter the settings
you took note of and click OK.

Connecting to the Switch

To connect to the switch:
1 Plug the supplied mains cable into the back of the switch
• PTP clock subdomain: 42
(~AC Line).
• Flow control: active
(A green LED on the front of the switch, labelled POWER,
lights when the switch is on.)
2 Connect devices to the switch using ports 1 through 8
(10/100/1000 Mbps Cu ports).
Note: Ports 9 and 10, which can be used for extension with Cu or optical
connectors, are not recommended for use; they do not have flow control.
The CONSOLE port is used for connecting to the console interface (see the
Console section).

What to Set Up

PTP Subdomain

The default setting is 42, but you may need to change the PTP subdomain if you
have several systems on the same network.
To change PTP subdomain:
1 Access the Web interface and navigate to Configuration > PTP.
2 Click the value in the Clock Instance field that is to be changed to open the
PTP Clock's Configuration window.
3 Enter the new value in the Dom field on the Clock Default Data Set row.
4 The number used here must correspond to the value used in the Synch
dialog of the Front-end Setup program.
5 Click Save.
