Aireo WiFi Troubleshooting
The following information may be useful when setting up your Aireo for use on your
WiFi network.
SoniqSync PC Software and Aireo Firmware
If you are having difficulty connecting your Aireo to your WiFi network you should
make sure that you are using the latest SoniqSync PC software and Aireo firmware.
Please see "About SoniqCast Software Updates" in the Support area of the SoniqCast
website for more information.
Wireless Access Point (WAP) Settings
The Aireo almost always works with a WAP when both are using their factory default
settings. If you are having difficulty connecting the Aireo to a WAP consider using the
Reset capability of the WAP to configure it to use its factory default settings. A WAP
usually has a Reset button (which may need to be depressed for up to 10 seconds) or you
can consult your WAP's documentation for how to reset your WAP.
Alternatively, you can manually confirm the following settings which affect the WAP's
ability to connect with an Aireo:
• 802.11b mode must be enabled.
o 802.11b WAPs (i.e., "11 Mbps" WAPs) are always in 802.11b mode.
o 802.11g WAPs (i.e., "54 Mbps" WAPs) often have a setting where one
can select 802.11g only, 802.11b only or both.
• Network broadcast must be enabled.
o Some WAPs have a "stealth" mode whereby the network is not broadcast.
• The SSID (network name) must not be all blank.
• The channel must be a USA channel (1-11) if using a North American model
Aireo.
• If MAC filtering/security is enabled, the Aireo's MAC address must be on the
Allowed list.
o Use the Aireo's Preferences | About screen to determine your Aireo's
MAC address.
• If WEP security is enabled, it must be "Open" WEP security and not "Shared"
WEP security. The latter is not supported by the Aireo.
• If WEP security is enabled, the network must be configured on the Aireo. See the
SoniqSync Online Help for information about configuring a network on an Aireo.
• WPA security must be disabled as Aireo players do not currently support WPA
security.
Note: There is a known issue with the Aireo connecting to a WEP protected wireless
network that uses a HEX WEP key containing a '00' digit. If you are experiencing
difficulty connecting to a WEP protected wireless network that uses a HEX WEP key,
consider removing all '00' digits from the HEX WEP key.
