Elgena KB 6 - Boiler Installation And User Manual

Introduction

The KB 6 is a low pressure warm water boiler containing approx. 6 liters. This boiler has been designed especially for boats, caravans, mobile homes and vending vehicles and the like and is available in various models.
This boiler can be connected to all means of unpressurized water supply such as submergible pumps, foot or hand pumps as well as to pressurized water supply such as automatic pumps or the water pipe using the corresponding fittings. (See water connection).

Installation

Choose a place which is as close as possible to the places where you want to tap hot water in order to avoid unnecessary loss of heat caused by a long water supply line. Install the boiler on the floor in a horizontal position (not in a vertical position) use the support brackets included in the delivery.

Water Connection

The correct water connection is very important for the proper functioning of this boiler. Use nontoxic pressurized water hoses with woven fabrics, internal diameter: 10 to 12mm. Install the hoses without any buckle, use clamps to fasten them to the connecting sleeves.

  1. Connection to unpressurized water supply such as submergible pumps, foot and hand pumps is very easy. You do not need any additional device, just use regular hoses to connect the KB6 to one or several tapping outlets. Make sure that there is no back pressure valve installed in either the pump or in the cold water pipe between pump. and boiler as otherwise possible excess pressure cannot escape and may cause damage to the boiler.
  2. Connection to pressurized water supply, e.g. automatic pumps with back pressure valve or pressurized water supply. The KB 6 can only be connected to one tapping outlet using a low pressure fitting.
The low-pressure fitting Z 12 is available at your distributor or from Messrs. ELGENA.

First fill the boiler with water before connecting it to the electric mains

After having installed all water connections, open your water supply or your hot water tap to fill the boiler with water. Once the boiler is completely full, water will run out of the hot water tap. It is completely full only when this happens. The boiler has open designed in a way that it is safe from draining off itself and from being drained off by a pump even if your cold water tank is emptied or drained off. You can only empty the boiler by means of the drain plug. (See emptying for the winter season)

How to connect the boiler to the water supply

How to connect the boiler to the water supply

Unpressurized water supply
Connection to submergible pump without back pressure valve
For one or several tapping outlets

Pressurized water supply
Connection to pressure pump or without back pressure valve the water pipe
For only one tapping outlet

Electric Connection

Do not connect the KB 6 to electricity before having completed the water connection and filled the boiler with water!
Note the operating voltage indicated on the boiler

The standard model of the KB 6 is supplied with a 1 meter connecting cable and a shock—proof plug. It is important that the boiler be connected to the mains via plug/ socket. Thus, when emptying the boiler for the winter season, it can be disconnected from the rest of the electric mains. As soon as the boiler has been connected to electricity the temperature is continuously adjustable using the thermostat.
Setting F = frost guard, II = approx. 40 0 C, III=ca. 70 º c . The set temperature is controlled automatically, the signal lamp indicates the heating up of the boiler.

The KB 6 is available in various electric models:
230 v 660 W (only approx. 3.0 amps)
220 v 330 W (only approx, 1.5 amps)
12 v 200 W (only approx. 16 amps) without shock-proof plug
24 v 400 N (only approx. 16 amps) without shock-proof plug
If you do not wish the boiler to operate while you are away, set the thermostat to "C". In winter season, the thermostat acts as a frost guard when set anywhere between " 0" and "F".

If the boiler is operated electrically without water, the temperature safety device installed in the heating element will come into action as soon as the excessive heating temperature of 110 'C is reached and will switch the boiler off electrically. Then, the temperature safety device has to be replaced by a certified serviceman.
Temperature safety devices are available at your distributor or from ELGENA Munchen

Frost Protection and emptying the boiler for the winter season

  1. You keep the boiler connected to the mains and set the thermostat to frost guard "E". Thus, the water temperature is kept above the freezing point, The electricity consumption for this method is very low.
  2. You disconnect the boiler from the mains (you pull out the plug) switch off the pump and open the drain plug. Then, you open the water tap so that air gets into the supply lines. If the water does not run out of the drain plug, blow into theopened water tap until the water runs out by itself.

Make sure that all the water has run out. Even if only a little water is left in the boiler, the boiler could burst because of frost.

First fill the boiler with water before any renewed operation
