Getting the most comfortable fit for you

(Do this at home - before you take the carrier out with your child).
Loosen the shoulder straps and hip belt first.

  1. Fitting the hip belt First position the hip belt correctly, with the centre of the hip belt covering your hip-bone, so the hips can help support the load. Position and tighten the hip belt 'F' as tightly as possible.
  2. The correct fit
When you have fitted the hip belt, look to check whether there is a gap between your shoulder and the shoulder strap 'E'.
  • If there is no gap then the carrier will not need adjusting.
  • If there is a gap then you will need to shorten the back system.
  • If the carrier lifts off your hips you will need to make the back system longer
  1. Adjusting the back system
Before adjusting; study the way the strap has been fed through the 'bigeye' back system, this will help during re-assembly.
    1. Simply part the 'Velcro webbing' strap 'B', which secures the adult carrying harness to the back system through the coloured eyelets 'C'.
    2. Slide the Velcro-webbing strap out.
    3. When you have decided the correct height position, simply re-feed the Velcro webbing strap through the two of the eyelets.
    4. On re-feed through 2 eyelets of the same colour on the back system.
    5. Secure 'Velcro webbing' strap firmly in place.
  1. Adjusting the shoulder straps
Pull down and backwards on the two webbing straps 'E', this will transfer some of the weight from the hips to your shoulders. The weight distribution should be 70% hips 30% shoulders. The shoulder tension straps 'A' need to be pulled down and forward to pull the top of the carrier in towards your back.
The shoulder straps must fit closely.
At most you should be able to only get a single finger between shoulder straps and you, then take a deep breath in & lift your arms. The hip belt MUST stay in position on your hips.
All carriers have self-adjusting shoulder tension straps.
  2. Sternum strap
Slide the 2 adjusters 'D' to the required position and click the two parts of the buckle together and pull the webbing strap so that the elastic starts to take the strain. By using the sternum strap it will greatly reduce the strain on your shoulders.

Please note the sternum straps are re-moveable and can be taken off and repositioned if necessary.

To make your child safe, comfortable and secure

  1. How to load your child safely
The carriers have a loading stabiliser located on the base. Undo the Velcro and pull out, place your foot on it to help to keep the carrier steady. On a Micro+ use the metal frame to stabilise the carrier while loading.
    1. Loosen the side straps and make the child seat area as wide as possible.
    2. Unclip the child harness buckles.
    3. Lower the child into the seat area (see fig 1 & 2).
    4. Support the weight of the child using the grab handle found in front of the child's seat.
    5. Raise or lower the child's seat to suit your child (see adjusting the seat height).
  1. Adjusting the seat height
The anatomically designed child seat can be raised and lowered to ensure a comfortable ride for your child, as they grow. The seat height adjuster is located below the comfort pad, it connects the child seat to the back system, to adjust the height use the labelled webbing strap pull on this to raise the seat and pull the yellow d-ring to loosen to lower the seat.

6 months to give the child back and side support, it is best to have the seat slightly lowered so that the child's shoulders are level with the top of the side wings.
12-18 months raise the seat so the child's armpits are level with the side wings (see fig 3).

18 months+ at this age you may need to lower the seat, again the child's armpits should be level with the side wings. It is not odd for a 2 year olds feet to be touching the ground when the carrier is on the floor.

  1. How to secure your child
  1. Pass the webbing harness straps over the child's shoulders and re-clip the harness buckles.
  2. Tighten the child's harness, by lengthening/shortening the webbing under the fleece straps. The harness straps are adjusted by opening the back zip pocket and undoing the buckles – pull to a snug fit and lock the buckles in position.
  3. Never use a carrier without the harness fitted snuggly.
  4. Pull evenly on both the side wing straps to draw the child seat in towards the back system (as close as possible), ensuring that the child is not constricted and uncomfortable.

Always make sure that the child is correctly harnessed in and that the harness has been adjusted correctly every time you use the carrier.
NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A CHILD CARRIER.

How to pick up your bushbaby carrier

First loosen the shoulder straps.
With someone – Get them to pick up the carrier with both hands using the frame lifting handles, on Lite carrier hold onto the frame half way up. Put your arm through one shoulder strap then the other, click the main buckle & then tighten the hip belt and shoulder straps as described before, and do up the sternum strap.
On your own - If you are on your own the best way to pick up your carrier is to take it to a 'half-way station', such as a settee, park bench, back seat of the car. Holding the top grab handle crouch down and put your other arm through a loosened shoulder strap (DO NOT LET GO). Then put your other arm the other shoulder strap. Stand up, click the main buckle & then adjust the hip belt as normal. If you have to lift the carrier from the floor, kneel down and place one hand under the edge of the base and lift it on to your knee. Put your arm through one shoulder strap then the other.
To take off the carrier reverse the above.

Carrier accessories

Sleep Cushion: The sleep cushion is attached by webbing/Velcro at the top of the back system and can be removed for cleaning.
Foot Loops: On Premier, Elite and Pinnacle these are attached under the child seat. They can be purchased for use on the Lite and Mico+ carriers, they attach to the d-rings located under the child seat. They are used like 'stirrups' on a horse to give more comfort to an older child (use from about 18mths). They can be lengthened and shortened to fit.
Sun Canopy (basic): The sun canopy frame slides into the two slots on either side at the back of the child seat, and then the two elastic loops are fixed round the buckles on the side wings.
Sun/Rain Canopy (Premier / Elite/ Pinnacle): The canopy frame slides into the two slots on either side at the back of the child seat then the two elastic loops are fixed round the buckles on the side wings. The Elite & Pinnacle have a mesh front that tucks away in the roof of the canopy, and can be fixed in place with the elastic loops.
PU Raincover: The raincover fits over the top of a sun canopy, and the elastic grips round the base of the carrier.
Raincape: The fully waterproof, taped rainccape fits over the child when in a carrier; the hood can be adjusted to fit using the tab on the back.
Holdall: The holdall is large enough to fit all carriers, plus extra clothing etc.
