    Important Safety Precautions Read these guidelines before using your wireless phone. Failure to comply with them may be dangerous or illegal. Road Safety at All Times Do not use a hand-held phone while driving; park the vehicle first.     Your Phone Key(s) Description (continued) Ends a call. When pressed and held, switches the phone on or off. In Menu Mode, cancells your input and returns to Idle Mode. When pressed and held in Idle Mode, quickly accesses your voice mail server.
  • Page 9 Your Phone Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. When your SIM card supports ALS (Alternate Line Service), this icon may appears with the number 1, 2, or both.

    Your Phone Clock Mode If you don’t press any key in a minute after dimming of the display, the display goes into the Clock Mode to save the power. Press any key to awake the display from the Clock Mode. Backlight The display and the keypad are illuminated by a backlight.

    Your phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details. Note: You must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A discharged standard battery is fully recharged in approximately 150 minutes.

    Getting Started Selecting Functions and Options Your phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft keys marked and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

    Getting Started Locking or Unlocking the Keypad You can lock the keypad and volume keys to avoid pressing keys by accident. To lock the keypad, press and hold the Idle Mode until the “Keypad locked” message appears on the display. You can also answer incoming calls using any keys, even if you lock the keypad and volume keys.

    Call Functions Making an International Call 1. Press and hold the 0 key for the international prefix. The + character appears. 2. Enter the country code, area code and phone number and press the key. Making a Call from Phonebook You can store the names and phone numbers called regularly in the SIM card and phone’s memory, which are jointly called the Phonebook.

    Call Functions Ending a Call When you want to finish your call, briefly press the key. Answering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call animation. If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number, or name if stored in your Phonebook, displays.
  • Page 19 Call Functions Muting/Sending Key Tones You can turn the key tones off or on during a call. When the Mute keys option is selected, your phone does not transmit the key tones. It allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.

    Phonebook Menu Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook: allows you to find, create or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management: allows you to create or remove your own number, set up caller groups and check the memory status.

    Messages This menu allows you to create, send, read and save messages with the Short Message Service (SMS: text message), Enhanced Message Service (EMS: message including simple image, animation or melody) and Multimedia Message Service (MMS: message supporting the presentation of various media types, such as full colour images and polyphonic ring tones).

    Phone Settings Auto Keylock (Menu 4.3) You can set the phone to automatically lock the keypad and volume keys if no key is pressed within a given amount of time. This feature is useful to avoid pressing keys by accident. To use this feature, select the length of time for which the phone waits before it locks the keypad and volume keys.

    Access Codes There are several access codes that are used by your phone and its SIM card. These codes help you protect the phone against unauthorised use. Some access codes can be changed using the Security menu option (Menu 4.5). See page 111 for further details.

    Access Codes PUK2 The PUK2, supplied with some SIM cards, is required to change a blocked PIN2. If you key in an incorrect PUK2 ten times in succession, you cannot use the functions requiring the PIN2. Contact your service provider for a new card.
