UPS is forced to test the battery to low battery alarm. Anytime when the two pins (C/D) become
open circuit, it will end the discharge test.
9.5 Consumer Output Fuses
The maximum current load may not exceed 30 A at each output, the maximum value for DC fuse is
40 A for each channel. A lower value of fuse can be used when maximum load current is much
lower than 30 A.
The consumer output fuses are preassembled with 40 A blade fuse links. These fuses have to be
adapted to the consumer output currents and used wire cross-sections.
Formula:
Fuse value = max. consumer current x 1.3.
9.6 Main Battery fuse
Into the battery connection a high current fuse has to be inserted. The fuse value has to be
determined according to the maximum total battery current:
Fuse value = maximum total battery current x 1.3.
Since charging current is 8 A maximum, the main battery fuse must be 16 A minimum.
9.7 Calculating battery capacity
As mentioned in the Technical Specifications below, battery capacity may be minimum 32 Ah and
maximum 150 Ah. These limits are predefined on one hand by the charging current (for every
battery type always a maximum charge current is specified) and on the other hand by the charging
time, which is determind in the EN 54-4 standard. In this standard a charging time of 24 hours for
80% of the rated capacity is required.
Furthermore the battery capacity has to be calculated regarding to:
1. The energy demand during a mains failure. Times of system standby and full power condition
have to be considered.
2. Additional consumer loads, who draw current also during mains present condition. These
currents have to be subtracted from the rated charging current of 8 A. Of course this will increase
the charging time.
9.8 Please note:
In case of present mains power, an output current exceeding 8 Amperes will discharge the
battery! The internal beeper will sound continuously in that case.
