SPECIAL CORD SET INSTRUCTIONS

For your protection, this unit is equipped with a 3-conductor cordset that has a molded 3-prong grounding-type plug, and should be used in combination with a properly connected grounding-type outlet as shown in figure A. If a grounding-type outlet is not available, an adapter, shown in Figure B, may be obtained so that a 2-slot wall outlet can be used with a 3-prong plug. As shown in Figure C, the adapter must be grounded by attaching its grounding lug under the screw of the outlet cover plate.

NOTE: Do not remove the grounding prong.

Before using an adapter, it must be determined that the outlet cover plate screw is properly grounded. If in doubt, consult a licensed electrician. Never use an adapter unless you are sure it is properly grounded.

NOTE: Use of an adapter is not permitted in Canada.

BEFORE FIRST USE

Before using your Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System for the first time, it is recommended that the unit be flushed through with fresh water. Please be sure you read the following instructions before flushing your water dispenser.

NOTE: Do NOT plug the unit in or install the filter yet.

  1. Remove your Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System carefully from the box. You may wish to store the packaging for future use.
  2. Position the unit on a stable flat surface, close to a main power outlet, not in direct sunlight and out of the reach of children.

  4. Lift the lid and, using a suitable jug, pour 1 gallon of tap water into the tank. While pouring the water, place a glass under the spigot and press the Room button to drain the water.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Installing the Water Filter

  1. Remove the water filter from its packaging (it is normal for the filter to appear moist during storage). DO NOT WASH FILTER ELEMENT WITH SOAP AND WATER.
  2. Place water filter into bowl in upright position with Cuisinart logo facing up.
  3. Add enough cold water to ensure that filter is fully submerged when pushed down. Hold filter upright, under water, and gently agitate it for 1 or 2 minutes or until you stop seeing bubbles rising to surface. Continue to soak filter for at least 15 minutes. NOTE: Filter may not completely sink to the bottom.
  4. While the filter is soaking, remove the unfiltered/upper water tank and filtered/ lower water tank. Wash both tanks and plastic lid in mild, soapy water, and rinse. NOTE: Remove filter timer before washing lid. Filter timer not immersible.
  5. When filter is thoroughly soaked, lift it from bowl and allow water to drain. NOTE: The filter contains a small amount of loose carbon dust, which may make water appear dark during soaking – once the preparation process is complete, dust will be rinsed out of filter.
  6. Insert the water filter (in upright position with Cuisinart logo facing up) into the upper water tank and push firmly into place.
  7. Hold the water tank with the filter in it under cold running tap water for 15 seconds to flush.
  8. Let water drain from upper water tank into sink.
  9. Fit the unfiltered/upper water tank onto the filtered/lower water tank and place cover on top. NOTE: The indent on the upper water tank must face to the back of unit when in place.
  10. Place the reassembled tanks on the base.

Setting Up Your Cuisinart® CleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System

  1. Lift the flip top lid, and using a clean pitcher, pour cold tap water into the unfiltered/upper water tank until full.
NOTE: Only cold tap water is to be poured into the unit.
  2. Allow approximately 15 minutes for water to filter into the filtered/lower water tank.
NOTE: Tank must be at least ½ full before proceeding to Step #3.
  3. To allow internal cold water tank to fill, place glass under spigot and press and hold Cold button until water flows steadily (about 1 minute). NOTE: Until air is fully displaced by water, water flow will be a little erratic.
  4. Close the lid.
  5. Plug the unit into an electrical outlet. Press the On/Off power switch on the control panel to turn on. The blue light around the power switch indicates the unit is on and the cold feature is activated.
  6. Dispense 16 ounces of room temperature water to remove any unfiltered water.
  7. After approximately 1 hour the blue cold water indicator will light up signaling the water has chilled. Your CuisinartCleanWater™ Countertop Filtration System is now ready for use.

NOTE: On subsequent fill-ups, unit may take up to 30 minutes to chill.

Using the Filter Timer

It is important to change your water filter regularly to enjoy the full benefits of good tasting filtered water. The filter timer automatically reminds you when your water filter should be changed. For optimum results, it should be changed every 3 to 4 months, or 80 gallons.

Once the filter is in place and unit assembled, start the filter timer as follows:

  1. On the cover, there is a filter timer that lets you know when to replace the filter.
  2. Tear off the slip that insulates the battery. Peel off "Filtering" sticker from filter timer screen.
  3. Press and hold the Start button until the word "Filtering" is displayed (approximately 3 seconds).
  4. In 12 weeks, the word "REPLACE" will appear. We recommend replacing the filter with a new Cuisinart® Water Filter within the following 2 weeks, depending on usage. NOTE: Only the Cuisinart Replacement Filter (see next page) can be used with this unit.
  5. Once you replace the filter, reset the timer by pressing the Start button. NOTE: If you do not replace the filter and press and hold Start button for 3 seconds, the timer will automatically shut off for power save and no display will be shown. You can press and hold Start button for 3 seconds anytime to reset the timer if needed. If you press Start button for more than 5 seconds the timer will automatically shut off for power save.
