Shock Hazard: This appliance is equipped with a power cord that has a grounding wire with grounding plug. The appliance must be grounded using a 3-hole properly grounded outlet. In the event of an electrical short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock. If the power outlet is a standard 2-prong wall outlet, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong outlet. Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from power cord or use adapter. Consult a qualified electrician if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded. Do not plug this appliance into an outlet with a voltage other than specified on the bottom of Kettle.

The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of this appliance, located on the bottom of the base.

Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the counter-top or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not use any high wattage appliance on the same circuit as this appliance.

Before We Begin

  1. Remove all packaging

  2. Clean and wash all parts
by rinsing interior of Kettle, wiping body with a damp cloth and drying with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse Kettle or base in water.
  3. Fill your kettle

Find Your Ideal Temperature

Coffee and different teas require different temperatures to reach their full flavor potential. Use the chart provided to see what temperature is best for your favorite coffee or tea.

Beverage Type Green & White Tea Oolong Tea Black Tea & Coffee Herbal Tea Boiling Water
Suggested Temperature 175°F/80°C 195°F/90°C 200°F/93°C 208°F/98°C 212°F/100°C

Note: Boiling point depends on altitude; at higher elevations, water boils at lower temperatures. If you live above sea level, keep in mind you may not be able to reach 212°F/100°C.

Using Your Kettle

Using Your Kettle

  1. Fill Kettle with water
Press button at top of handle to open lid, then fill Kettle with cold water to the desired level (between the "MIN" and "MAX" markings). Check to make sure the removable stainless steel filter is properly snapped into frame.
  2. Plug in
Make sure lid is locked into a closed position before use, and place Kettle securely on base. Plug power cord into 1 10V/120V outlet.
  3. Set desired temperature

Water will now be heated to your desired temperature. It will beep when ready, and will be held for 30 minutes. To cancel at any time, press OXO button during the boiling cycle.

Note: Your Kettle will operate only when it is positioned on the power base with a desired temperature selected. It will automatically switch off once the water has reached the desired temperature and has been held for 30 minutes.

Do not put the empty Kettle back on base when in keep warm mode. Be sure to turn base off before returning empty Kettle to base.

Making the Most Out of Your Kettle

Notes on Filling Your Kettle

Under-filling may result in Kettle switching off before reaching a boil and/or overheating from boiling dry. Boiling dry can cause rust to form, or damage the inside of the kettle. Over-filling may result in boiling water splashing out of pour spout, and could cause scalding or serious injury. Water can also leak from the top and collect in the base of the Kettle. When the base gets wet, Kettle will stop working prematurely.

Changing the Temperature Unit

To change temperature unit while in use, press OXO button for 3 seconds, twist dial to choose between F and C, and press OXO button again to confirm. The display will show the temperature of the water as it is being heated.

Safety

The Kettle uses 1500W to heat water. To avoid tripping a breaker, plug Kettle into its own wall outlet, to ensure sufficient capacity.

Note: This appliance is designed for boiling or heating drinking quality water only. Never use it to heat or boil any other liquids or food. Never put tea or coffee inside the kettle.

The Kettle is fitted with a safety device which protects against overheating should the appliance be operated with insufficient water. If this occurs, the Kettle will stop heating. Allow Kettle to cool for approximately 20 minutes before refilling. The safety device will automatically reset when the Kettle has sufficiently cooled.

Do not fill the Kettle beyond the "MAX" line. This may result in hot water splashing out of the spout.

When ready, lift Kettle from base and pour slowly to prevent water coming out of the lid. The handle and bottom of the Kettle are designed to stay cool after boiling to protect your hands, and the insulated bottom allows you to place the Kettle on any surface when you're done pouring.

Do not open the lid during and after operation. The lid should always be closed securely during use. This may result in hot or boiling water splashing from the Kettle. Pour all hot water from the Kettle before opening the lid to refill.

The Kettle appliance is very hot during use. Do not touch Kettle surface. Beware of burns! Use the handle for lifting, carrying and pouring. If you need extra support, use an oven mitt.

Descaling

The ideal descaling cycle depends on water hardness. Descale the Kettle every 60 uses. Regular descaling can also increase the service life of the kettle, allowing it to boil water faster with less energy.

  1. Fill the Kettle
with 7 ounces of solution and 53 ounces of water. Note: This will fill the Kettle nearly to the max line, 60oz.
  2. Bring Solution to Boil
  3. Ensure Kettle is off
Unplug from the outlet. Let mixture sit for 15 - 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse
    2-3 times with fresh water.

Notes on Descaling

Scale is a naturally occurring buildup of mineral deposits caused by impurities in water or use of hard water. How often you should descale your Kettle depends on water hardness.

Storage

We recommend OXO descaling solution. Buy descaling solution where household cleaning products are sold and follow the solution's recommended use.

Cleaning & Care

Always unplug your Kettle before cleaning it. Any service or maintenance other than cleaning or descaling should be performed by an authorized service representative. For more information, call OXO Customer Service at (800) 545-4411, or email tellus@oxo.com.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Kettle is plugged in but will not turn on If Kettle is plugged in and turned on without any water in it, it will automatically shut off to prevent overheating. The Kettle will be able to turn on again in a few minutes after it cools back down to a safe temperature.
Kettle is pouring too slowly Check the removable filter in the spout for clogging. If necessary, clean the filter with a soft-bristled brush and rinse with warm water.
Kettle is taking longer than usual to boil Your Kettle might need to be descaled. See descaling instructions.
I selected 212°F but the Kettle always stops at 204°F Check your altitude; your boiling point may be lower than 212°F. The Kettle cannot reach temperatures higher than your altitude's boiling point.
How do I change from F to C? To change temperature unit while in use, press OXO button for 3 seconds, twist dial to choose between F and C, and press OXO button again to confirm. The display will show the temperature of the water as it is being heated.
