When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are supervised. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  4. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. Use pot holders when removing hot containers.

  8. Vessel may remain hot after unit is turned off.
  9. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  10. Do not use outdoors.
  11. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
  12. Do not place on or near a hot gas or an electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  13. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot food, water, or other hot liquids.
  14. To disconnect, push up the switch and then remove plug from wall outlet.
  15. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  16. Lift and open cover carefully to avoid scalding, and allow water to drip into the cooking pot.

  17. Risk of electric shock. Cook only in removable cooking pot.
  18. Do not place the unit directly under cabinets when operating as this product produces large amounts of steam. Avoid reaching over the product when operating.

Electrical Shock Hazard: This appliance has a polarized plug (one wide blade) that reduces the risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a polarized outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in any way or by using an adapter. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, have an electrician replace the outlet.
The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the appliance. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over.
To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not use another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit with this appliance.

How to Cook Rice, Grain, and Cereal


Electrical Shock Hazard. Cook only in removable cooking pot. Never place water or food directly into the base.

Steam from steam vent can cause injury.

Before first use: Wash all removable parts before using. See Care and Cleaning for details.

Rice Measuring Cup information: This is an important tool in using your Rice Cooker successfully and its size is a standard in the rice industry. One rice measuring cup equals 6 oz. (177 g) or approximately 3/4 cup U.S. standard measure.

  1. For model with Rice Rinsing/Steamer Basket only: Measure rice with Rice Measuring Cup. Add the desired amount of measured uncooked rice to Rinsing/ Steamer Basket. Do not fill above side vents to prevent rice from falling through while rinsing. Place basket under a slowflowing faucet and rinse. Add drained rice to Cooking Pot. Repeat rinsing with any remaining rice.
  2. Add desired amount of uncooked rice to Cooking Pot; then fill with water to corresponding water line. EXAMPLE: If you add 4 level Rice Measuring Cups of rice to Cooking Pot, add water to the "4" line of Cooking Pot. DO NOT exceed MAX fill line. Follow package directions if proportions vary from this recommendation. Amounts of water can be adjusted to personal preference
  3. Place Cooking Pot securely into Base.
    NOTE: Make sure bottom of Cooking Pot is not bent or warped, or it will not conduct heat correctly.
  4. Add Lid to Cooking Pot.
  5. Plug into outlet.
  6. WARM light will illuminate, but unit is not yet cooking.
  7. Press Cook Switch down to begin cooking.
  8. COOK Light will illuminate.
  9. When finished cooking, Cooker will switch automatically to WARM and light will illuminate.
  10. Unplug.

How to Steam Food


Electrical Shock Hazard. Cook only in removable cooking pot. Never place water or food directly into the base.

Steam from steam vent can cause injury.

  1. Fill Cooking Pot half full of water.
  2. Place Cooking Pot securely into Base.
    NOTE: Make sure bottom of Cooking Pot is not bent or warped, or it will not conduct heat correctly.
  3. For model with Steamer Basket with Basket Divider: Add Basket Divider before steaming different foods. Add food to Steamer Basket.
  4. Place Steamer Basket into Cooking Pot.
  5. Add Lid to Cooking Pot.
  6. Plug into outlet.
  7. WARM Light will illuminate, but unit is not yet cooking.
  8. Press Cook Switch down to begin cooking.
  9. COOK Light will illuminate. Steam food to desired doneness. Unit automatically switches to WARM when all water is evaporated. NOTE: If unit switches to WARM and food needs more steaming, add water to Cooking Pot and press Cook Switch down to cook.
  10. Using an oven mitt, use tongs to remove food from Steamer Basket.
  11. Unplug.

How to Steam Food While Cooking Rice


Electrical Shock Hazard. Cook only in removable cooking pot. Never place water or food directly into the base.

Steam from steam vent can cause injury.

  1. Follow directions in steps 1–3 for How to Cook Rice, Grain, and Cereal. NOTE: Some foods should be added to Steamer Basket at the start of cooking rice, and others need to be added when lid vent emits heavy steam.
  2. For model with Steamer Basket with Basket Divider: Add Basket Divider before steaming different foods. Add food to Steamer Basket.
  3. Place Steamer Basket into Cooking Pot.
  4. Add Lid to Cooking Pot.
  5. Plug into outlet.
  6. WARM light will illuminate, but unit is not yet cooking.
  7. Press Cook Switch down to begin cooking.
  8. COOK light will illuminate.
  9. Remove Lid to check doneness of food in Steamer Basket. NOTE: To check steamed food during rice cooking time, use caution and an oven mitt while lifting Lid. If food is done, remove food with spatula from Steamer Basket to serving bowl/platter.
  10. Using an oven mitt, remove Steamer Basket.
  11. Add Lid to Cooking Pot.
  12. When finished cooking rice, Cooker will automatically switch to WARM mode and light will illuminate.
  13. Unplug.

Care and Cleaning


Electrical Shock Hazard. Do not immerse base, cord, or plug in water or other liquid.

  1. Unplug.
  2. Wipe Cooking Pot with a damp cloth or sponge. To remove stubborn spots, use a mild nonabrasive cleanser.
  3. Cooking Pot and Lid are dishwasher-safe. Steamer Basket, Rice Measuring Cup, and Rice Paddle are dishwasher-safe for top rack only. DO NOT use the "SANI" setting when washing in the dishwasher. "SANI" cycle temperatures could damage your product.

Troubleshooting

Cooker doesn't turn on

  • Cooker is not plugged in. Make sure Rice Cooker is plugged into a properly operating electrical outlet.

Rice is not cooked

  • Not enough water/cooking liquid. Follow package directions.
  • Place Cooking Pot securely into the base. NOTE: If Cooking Pot is bent or warped, it will not seat properly in Base and, therefore, will not conduct heat correctly. To replace Cooking Pot, contact Customer Service or visit proctorsilex.com.
  • Let rice rest for 10 to 15 minutes after cooking is complete and Rice Cooker has switched to WARM.

Rice is mushy

  • Too much liquid added to Cooking Pot. Reduce liquid.
