FiberPath 500 Installation Reference Guide
The FiberPath 500 System meets or exceeds the FSAN standard for distance of 20 km and optical
loss of 25 dB.
FiberPath Optical Plant Specifi cations
The FiberPath system must adhere to certain optical specifi cations. Any optical plant has inherent
loss characteristics and with these losses certain optical levels must be met. The information
found below can be used to help with the turn-up and troubleshooting process.
NOTE:
Verify all optical power levels before connections are made. If excessive loss
is noted, the use of an optical time domain refl ectometer (OTDR) may be
required. Also, clean all optical connections when handling them. Use proper
cleaning techniques to ensure minimal throughput losses.
Table 1 depicts the expected optical transmit and receive windows for the FiberPath 500 system.
These readings are measured with an optical power meter at a wavelength of 1550 nm. The
assumed optical output of the GPON is 1 dBm @1550 nm; VPON output is 20 dBm @ 1550 nm.
NOTE:
The GPON actually operates at 1490 nm however optical power meters capable
of measurements at this wavelength may not be readily available.
