Unlock the machine Swipe your student card in front of the card reader. If you’ve booked the laser cutter at the current time period the machine will turn on. If the machine doesn’t turn on re-check the time period of your booking. Otherwise contact the workshop staff.

The Operation screen “OPER.” is short for Operation and is the screen used to start and stop the laser cutter once your job has been uploaded. After uploading your cutting job from the connected PC the cutting won’t begin before you press the “Start”-button.

Moving the laser head “FOCUS” is for manually moving the laser head around. Use the arrows to move the laser head around. “P1” is for moving the laser head to the lower left corner and “P2” to the upper right corner.

Placing the material Place the laser head in the lower left corner of the machine (where the coordinates x,y = 0,0). Setting correct focus Place the 2”-distance-block perpendicular to your material and turn the knob until the block exactly fits in the cavity of the lowest tray on the laser head. Spin this knob to adjust the height of the laser head. If your material is not completely planar the focus will change along the material.

Adjust air pressure Depending on the material you’re cutting in the amount of air should be adjusted. A rule of thumb is that thicker materials require more air than thinner materials. Using too much air can result in smaller pieces being blown away after being cut out.
