Glue (e.g. Bostik 1400) Clean and rub with sandpaper the titanium insert of the male part of the connector. Check that the electrical pins are shiny. Contact iXblue if the pins are corroded (not shiny). Grease the two terminations of the connector.
  • Page 14 User Guide Spread some glue on the thread of the three screws. Make sure to install the arm at the correct location on the GAPS housing. Make sure to have the same labels on both items. Perform the screwing manually, do not use any tool. Alternately push and screw the connector to its plug until the pins of the male connector are fully inserted in the female plug.

GAPS Maintenance User Guide 2.3 Calibration Procedure Calibration consists of the following steps: ● Deploying the transponder on a mooring: see section 2.3.1 ● Procedure: see section 2.3.2 > Sailing the first 8-shape navigation pattern and data acquisition > Loading data in USBLCal and computing the offsets that must be residual >...
  • Page 21: Procedure

8-shape navigation pattern is carried out by following a particular radius of curvature depending on the transponder depth. Water Depth The water depth depends on the accuracy of the GPS that is connected to the GAPS. ● With D-GPS: accuracy is around 1 m, water depth must be 1000 m or greater ●...
  • Page 22 Check the logging directory in the GAPS Web-based User Interface. Align GAPS: ● Switch on GAPS and keep a stable position during at least 5 minutes (alignment). ● Perform 90° or 180° turns every 5 minutes with the vessel and check the heading standard deviation in the navigation page of GAPS Web-based User Interface.
  • Page 23 Start the acoustic tracking only when heading standard deviation < 0.07°. ● When heading standard deviation is below 0.07°, prepare the data logging with iXblue Multilogger provided with GAPS or with a standard hyper-terminal .
