The RAS-Extend M auto-acquire wireless system delivers secure high-speed TCP/IP Ethernet network access to vessels and floating platforms operating anywhere in a Redline wireless coverage area. The RAS-Extend M mounts on a prepared mast and provides touchless continuous antenna alignment.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Table 3: Components- RAS-Extend M System Components Item Description Wireless Terminal RAS-Extend M wireless terminal. Antenna Positioner RAS-Extend M antenna positioner. IMPORTANT: The installer must provide a fabricated mounting plate properly affixed to the mast top and prepared with bolt holes positioned as described in this document.
RF signals from attached (active) GPS antenna systems. The GPS system is used to determine the location, speed and direction of the RAS-Extend M system. Pre- terminated cables are provided to connect the wireless terminal to the GPS antennas.
The RAS-Extend M antenna positioner unit controls the alignment of the antenna for the RAS-Extend M system. Two pairs of RF ports conduct the RF signals between the static base ports and the moving platform. Control signals and power are provided by the RAS-Extend M wireless terminal.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Data & Power Adapter The RAS-Extend M Data & Power Adapter unit provides the Ethernet connection to the local network and the primary power input for the RAS-Extend M system. Figure 9: Components: Data & Power Adapter Ports Power In Port The Power In port (3-pin circular / M) for 120/240 VAC reliable power.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines MIMO Directional Antenna System The RAS-Extend M UHF system uses a 475 mm (19 in) directional antenna. Figure 11: Components: UHF MIMO Antenna Ports RF-1 / RF-2 The two RF ports (TNC / F) conduct RF signals between the antenna system and the wireless terminal.
Figure 15: Components: RF Jumper Cables Ethernet Cable The RAS-Extend M Ethernet cable conducts data between the RAS-Extend M system and the local network. This cable connects to the RAS-Extend M Data & Power Adapter unit. Figure 16: Components: Ethernet Data Cable The Ethernet cable and connector are shielded.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Power, Control & RF Cable The Power, Control & RF Cable is the main connection between the RAS-Extend M wireless terminal and the RAS-Extend M antenna positioner. The 10-pin to 43-pin cable transfers power and control signals from the wireless terminal to the antenna positioner unit.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines 2.11 GPS Antenna Kit The RAS-Extend M uses a set of two (2) active-type GPS antennas. The two RF ports (TNC / F) conduct RF signals between the GPS antenna system and the wireless terminal.
Materials Review list of materials to be provided by the installer Installation of the RAS-Extend M equipment requires additional equipment and materials supplied by the installer. The following list is a guideline only, and additional materials may be required based on local conditions at each installation site.
Survey for RF Access to Sector Controllers For best results: Mount the RAS-Extend M in a location that provides a relatively unobstructed view of the horizon in 360 degrees. Avoid mounting the RAS-Extend M antenna close to metal objects that may block or reflect the signal.
It is important to conduct a site survey before installing the GPS antenna. A poorly installed or badly located GPS antenna can cause interference and will not provide the necessary information for correct operation of the RAS-Extend M system. Figure 24: Survey: GPS Antenna The GPS antenna must have a clear view of the sky, preferably to within 10 degrees of horizon in all directions.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Survey Network (Ethernet) Connection A pre-terminated Ethernet cable is supplied with the RAS-Extend M system. This cable is pre-terminated with shielded RJ-45 connectors and a pre-assembled weatherproof gland for connection to the Data & Power Adapter.
Survey Power Source The installer must: 1. Provide a compatible power source for the RAS-Extend M system. 2. Provide a power cord from the AC source to the Data & Power Adapter. A mating weatherproof plug is provided for connection to the adapter. Use the following system...
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Survey Spatial Requirements The installer must prepare and install a mast for mounting RAS-Extend M antenna positioner, wireless terminal and GPS antenna system. Some installations may require a separate mast for the GPS antenna bracket.
Site Preparation Mast & Mounting Plate for Antenna Positioner The installer must prepare a mounting platform for the RAS-Extend M antenna positioner. The mast diameter must be 45 - 120 mm (1.75 - 4.5 in). Table 6: Preparation: Mast Loading Incl.
Optional Second Mast for GPS System Arm Based on the results of the GPS site survey, It may be desired to mount the GPS antenna arm separately form the RAS-Extend M antenna positioner and wireless terminal. The antenna mounting bracket is compatible with masts 45-120 mm (1.75-4.50 in) in diameter.
RDL-3000 RAS-Extend M Installation Guidelines Mounting Plate for Data & Power Adapter unit. The installer must prepare a flat mounting platform or shelf for the RAS-Extend M Data & Power Adapter unit. This unit may be mounted using the supplied metal feet, on plate prepared for direct mount, or with appropriate strapping.
