PermaLok Installation Procedure for Type 2 Transducers
Required Equipment: 5/16" Nut Driver/Flat Head Screwdriver
Sand Paper or Sanding Block
PermaLok/Straps
Note: Dependant on the application two tracks may be necessary for the transducer arrangement, figure 1.
If dual tracks are needed each track receives only one transducer head, each transducer set has two heads.
Step 1. Clean the surface of the pipe with sandpaper or similar material in order to obtain a smooth surface.
Paint does not need to be removed as long as the surface is smooth. Any chipped paint that makes an
uneven surface should be removed or avoided if possible. Remove the lid from the PermaLok track.
Step 2. Take note which side of the track is marked "Face This Side Down" and ensure the drip holes are
angled properly to drain water if accumulation is to occur. Slide the stainless steel strap through the slot on
either side of the PermaLok track. Wrap the strap around the pipe and insert one end of the strap into the
screw driven tightening assembly. It is desirable to have the screw assembly sitting flat against the pipe
surface when tightened; it is undesirable to have the screw assembly free floating as it would if too near to
the PermaLok. Repeat for second strap; do not over tighten. Figure 2
Step 3. Before the track is securely fixed to the pipe ensure that the track and pipe are parallel. The
PermaLok can now be securely tightened to the pipe.
Step 4. Apply coupling paste and foils (black rubber pads) on the transducer face which couples with the
pipe. The screws of the slider assemblies are to fit into the dugout on the top of the transducer, figure 3.
Then making sure the arrows formed by the two transducers matches the direction of flow, insert the
transducers into the track, figure 4.
Step 5. Using the spacing determined by the meter, space the transducers using the screw/slider assembly,
the spacing distance is denoted by "X" in figure 4. Once properly spaced tighten the screws on the slider
assemblies until the transducers are firmly pressed against the pipe surface, measure the spacing again to
ensure proper distance. Place each armored cable in the rubber grommet on each end of the track.
Step 6. The lid can now be screwed on to the track and the installation is complete, figure 5.

Note: The single track size may vary with transducer type.
