    Safety and Maintenance Laser Safety The Gocator 2490 sensor used in the Legal for Trade system contains a semiconductor laser that emits visible light. It is designated as Class 2. Gocator sensors are referred to as components, indicating that they are sold only to qualified customers for incorporation into their own equipment.

    2490A-2-R-16-T 1310 Systems Sold or Used in the USA Systems that incorporate laser components or laser products manufactured by LMI Technologies require certification by the FDA. Customers are responsible for achieving and maintaining this certification. Customers are advised to obtain the information booklet Regulations for the Administration and Enforcement of the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act of 1968: HHS Publication FDA 88-8035.

    Ensure that no residue is left on the windows after cleaning. Turn off lasers when not in use LMI Technologies uses semiconductor lasers in Gocator sensors. To maximize the lifespan of the sensor, turn off the laser when not in use.

    Environment and Lighting Avoid strong ambient light sources The imager used in this product is highly sensitive to ambient light. Do not operate this device near windows or lighting fixtures that could influence measurement or data acquisition. If the unit must be installed in an environment with high ambient light levels, a lighting shield or similar device may need to be installed to prevent light from affecting measurement.

    Getting Started How Gocator Legal for Trade Works LMI’s Legal for Trade system requires sensor and component mounting, sensor configuration, and alignment before measurements can be generated. While the production system only requires the sensor and measurement display, a PC or laptop is needed during sensor configuration.

    You can purchase the display from LMI or directly from the manufacturer. The LMI item number below is loaded with the legal for trade measurement display application developed by LMI. The display will ship using a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.5, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

    Encoder to the Gocator. Please refer to the Gocator I/O Connector pinout and Encoder Power/Data Connector pinout diagrams for details on how to make these connections. LMI provides the Gocator cordsets as separate part numbers while the encoder wiring harness is bundled with the encoder itself.

    Gocator Power and Ethernet Cordset It is recommended that users purchase a Gocator Power/LAN cordset, such as 301176 listed on the Gocator Legal for Trade parts list. This cordset can be used to connect a Gocator to the Smart Display, Ethernet Switch or a Laptop using the RJ45 connection and a power supply using the pigtailed leads.

    WARNING: Confirm the wiring of Safety_in- before starting the sensor. Wiring DC_24-48V into Safety_in- may damage the sensor. Gocator I/O Cordset It is recommended that users purchase a Gocator I/O cordset, such as 301175 listed on the Gocator Legal for Trade parts list. This cordset can be used to connect a Gocator to an Encoder, Refer to the Gocator I/O Connector pinout below for connections to an encoder.

    Encoder Power/Data Connector The Gocator Legal for Trade system requires an encoder to trigger the sensor profile at discrete intervals synchronized with the motion of the conveyor. The encoder recommended by LMI TR3-U5B-3000NV1RHV-SMK-L5CE includes a wire harness. Refer to the table below and connect this wire harness to the corresponding Gocator I/O cordset leads.

    Mounting Sensors should be mounted using the screws defined on the dimension drawings of the sensor. Refer to the Specifications for the appropriate screw diameter, pitch, length, and bolt hole diameter. Proper care should be taken in order to ensure that the internal threads are not damaged from cross threading or improper insertion of screws.
  • Page 21 Test Mounting Before testing, users must adapt the system to the conveyor and package under inspection, described in the Sensor Configuration chapter. Once completed, Zero and Measure the sensor and measure a package of known dimensions. The system should generate a consistent measurement independent of package orientation.

    If these values are not changed, the system may attempt to measure objects outside of the conveyor. To adjust the measurement region, download the Gocator Conveyor Utility from the LMI downloads page to a local PC or laptop and connect to the sensor.

Close the program and wait for the smart display to return to the normal menu. If it does not return to the normal menu after 10 seconds, restart the Gocator. You do not need to configure it again.

    Changing the Sensor IP Address Changing the sensor IP address will disconnect the sensor from the smart display. DO NOT modify the sensor IP address unless you are also modifying the Smart Display settings which correspond with this address. 1. With a sensor selected, press the Set IP Address button.     7. Press the System Mode button. From there, press the Main Menu button in the top right. 8. From the Main Menu screen, press Initial Setting, Communication I/F (Comm. From there, press the left/right arrow buttons to select the item, and then enter the IP address with the numeric keys.

    Zero Sensor and Measure Packages The Gocator Legal for Trade system provides a user interface that reports the length, width, and height of each package that passes beneath the sensor. If required, the user can zero the system by performing a sensor-to-belt alignment. The user is also able to clear the sensor alignment if needed.

  • Page 31 SOLUTION The senor ships from LMI with an IP address of 192.168.1.10, subnet 255.255.255.0. Check the IP address of your PC or laptop Ethernet adapter connected to the sensor and ensure this is 192.168.1.x, subnet 255.255.255.0. x cannot equal 10 (sensor) or 5 (smart display).
