    Prior to operating the Row Crop Cultivator, be sure to read and understand this Operator’s Manual. If there is any portion you do not understand, or any phase of the machine’s operation you do not understand, be sure to contact your local Lorenz dealer or Lorenz Manufacturing Company.
  • Page 6: Preoperating Checklist

    Observe the same precautions if the rear wheels become mired in soft ground or drop in a hole. Do not drive near the edge of a ditch or gully. Only one person, the operator, should be permitted on the tractor when it is in operation. Never allow a person to ride on the cultivator.

    FIELD OPERATION The C-Shanks are fastened to the gang toolbars by means of a spring-loaded C-Shank assembly. The special C-Shank assembly locks, fastened on both sides, secure the assembly in position and reduces side-to-side movement of the C-Shank assembly. It is very important that the main assembly bolt and the lock U-bolts remain tight.
  • Page 8 3. 5”x 7” Head tower assembly. See Fig. 2a. Position the head tower (6) at the center of the toolbar with hitch holes to the front. Wrap the two ¾” U-Bolts (5) from the bottom of the toolbar and insert through the head tower holes. Fasten with ¾”...
  • Page 9 Insert the two lower 3-point 1 ”x 5” pins (12) for category 2 hitches, or 1 ” x 7/16 6 ¾” pins for category 3 hitches, in the holes of the lower 3-pt. hitch. Secure with ” hairpins. 3/16 4. 7”x 7” Head tower assembly. See Fig. 2b. For both folding and non-folding toolbars, position the head tower (136) at the center of the toolbar with hitch holes to the front.
  • Page 10 Note: If the parking stand makes contact with the tractor cab when the cultivator is raised, reposition the parking stand on the rear side of the toolbar. 6. See Fig. 5. For 5-Shank gangs, place the two front adjustable tubes (19) or (20) into the front Formed angle of the gang.

For 5-Shank gangs, each center gang receives 5 shanks positioned as in Fig. 3. The outside gangs receive 3 shanks, positioned on the inside of the gang.

    12. Attach gang to toolbar. Position the gangs opposite the hitch side of the toolbar. Locate your row spacing marks on the toolbar and center each gang’s angle gang bracket on these marks. For 5”x 7” toolbars, place two ”x 5”x 8 ¼” U-Bolts, (31) around the front of the toolbar with thread ends inserted through the upper and lower holes of the angle gang bracket.

Position the cultivator’s center gang’s gauge wheel (1) so that it is traveling under the right side of the gang, when viewed from the front. This will allow the coulter blade (2) to run in the center of the cultivator without disturbing the gauge wheel tire.
  • Page 16 3. Position the stabilizer in front of, and to the inside of the gang, when looking at the cultivator from the front. Remove the ” U-Bolt from the inside angle gang bracket. Match the stabilizer bracket holes so the two outside holes align with the two inside angle bracket holes.

    LARGE GAUGE WHEEL KIT MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Locate positions of equal length from the toolbar’s center point. The large gauge wheels are mounted opposite a gang, and using two of the gang’s angle bracket holes to secure to the toolbar. Usually, the two large gauge wheels are mounted on the inside of the center toolbar’s outer gangs.

    FIELD ADJUSTMENTS AND OPERATING TIPS Compare cultivator with planter to verify row settings. Check gang movement. a. Vertical travel – Gang should move up and down without wobble, but not binding. Readjust tightness/looseness of the gang tower linkage arm if necessary b.
  • Page 22 7” shovel in the rear. Do not grease or oil the parallel arm powder metal bushings. The Lorenz cultivator is designed to adapt readily to 3-point quick hitch. A maximum depth of 3 to 4 inches is suggested to insure ideal cultivator performance, although, on a second cultivation, it may be necessary to increase the depth in order to maintain optimum shank action.
