These features mean that DS Agile products can be used in applications, from the most basic to the most demanding. They also ensure interoperability with existing components. Alstom provides a range of Ethernet products such as switches, which take into account the compulsory requirements of electrical substations, including power supply and immunity to environmental constraints.
H38x/EN GL/D11 Global Documentation Page 6/53 DS Agile H38x DS Agile H38x The DS Agile H38x is a range of standalone Ethernet Switches embedded with the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP according to IEC 62439-3) to provide redundancy of communications. The product also supports the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) according to IEEE 1588 v2 to provide highly accurate time synchronisation.
However, the manuals cannot cover all conceivable circumstances or include detailed information on all topics. In the event of questions or specific problems, do not take any action without proper authorization. Contact the appropriate Alstom technical sales office and request the necessary information.

Global Documentation H38x/EN GL/D11 DS Agile H38x Page 13/53 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The H38x enables Ethernet equipped devices to connect via a Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP in accordance with IEC 62439-3). Devices connect to the switch by electrical connections using RJ45 connectors. These connections comply with 10/100Base-Tx. Three ports are provided.
H38x/EN GL/D11 Global Documentation Page 14/53 DS Agile H38x The figure below shows an example of a PRP network. The doubly attached nodes DANP 1 and DANP 2 have full node redundancy, while the singly attached nodes SAN 1 and SAN 4 do not have any redundancy.
The MIB then serves as a data dictionary or codebook that is used to assemble and interpret SNMP messages. For this product, the Alstom management information bases (MIB) use the following types of object identifiers (OID): −...

H38x/EN GL/D11 Global Documentation Page 48/53 DS Agile H38x 8.4.1 Upgrading Software From time-to-time you might need to upgrade the switch’s software. This might be to take advantage of new features, or to fix problems. To do this you need the software upgrade files, together with a correctly configured FTP server on a computer with a connection to the board, and the IP address of the host as demonstrated in the figure below.

H38x/EN GL/D11 Global Documentation Page 52/53 DS Agile H38x APPLICATIONS Fibre Optic budget calculations Optical power is expressed in Watts. However, the common unit of power measurement is the dBm, defined by the following equation: Power (dBm) = 10 log Power (mW) / 1 mW. The fibre optic budget is the difference between the power emitted into the fibre and the sensitivity (minimum amount of power required) of the receiver connected through the fibre optic cable.
Page 57
Global Documentation H38x/EN GL/D11 DS Agile H38x Page 53/53 GLOSSARY The fibre optic ports are full/half duplex at 100 Mbps only. 100Base-Fx The copper ports are full/half duplex and auto-sense the 10Base-Tx and transmission speed. They will auto-negotiate with the connected 100Base-TX device to determine the optimal speed.
