MC Crypt GPM-1 Pro - Guitar Amplifier Simulator Operating Instructions

Intended Use

The GPM-1 Pro guitar amplifier simulator serves for treatment of audio signals in the private or semi-professional sector.
The inputs and outputs may only be connected to the connections of musical instruments and audio devices.
It may only be supplied with power either by battery (for type see „Technical data") or by using a plug-in power unit (for specification see „External power supply").
This product is only authorised for use in closed rooms, i.e. not outdoors. Do not expose the device to humidity, e.g. in bathrooms etc.
Use other than that described above will lead to damage to the device and may involve additional risks, such as shorts, fire etc.
The safety instructions must be observed at all cost!

Safety Instructions

warning The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety instructions. We shall not be liable for any consequential loss.
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. The warranty will be void in such cases.

warning An exclamation indicates important instructions in the operating instructions. Please read the operating instructions completely before initial operation of the device; they contain important information on correct operation.

  • For safety and licensing (CE) reasons, unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product are not permitted.
  • Never pour liquids on to electrical devices, and never place any objects containing liquids (such as vases) on top of them or near them. This would cause a serious danger of fire or electric shock. If fluid does get into the device, immediately take out the battery and consult a specialist.
  • Do not expose the device to extremely high temperatures, dripping or spraying water, strong vibrations, or great mechanical strain.
  • Do not place any sources of open fire, such as burning candles, onto or next to the device.
  • Do not operate the device when it is unattended.
  • Do not use the device in a tropical climate.
  • Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become a dangerous toy for children!
  • When in doubt about how to connect the device correctly, or should any questions arise that are not answered in these operating instruc-tions, contact our Technical Advisory Service or another expert.

Features

  • simulation of 3 sound characteristics of popular guitar amplifiers
  • 3 gain levels
  • 3 simulations for different microphone positions
  • integrated delay function
  • effect loop for connection of external effect devices
  • additional audio input for feed-in of background music
  • Headphone output
  • solid and stable metal housing

Inserting/replacing the batteries

warning The guitar amplifier simulator must be switched off during the replacement of batteries, no plug must be inserted in the input GUITAR IN (13).
Keep batteries out of the reach of children.

Please observe correct polarity when inserting the batteries.
Remove the battery when the device is not being used for longer periods of time.
Leaking or damaged batteries can cause burns if they come into contact with the skin. You should therefore wear suitable protective gloves.
Make sure that the batteries are neither short-circuited nor thrown into a fire. Do not recharge batteries. There is a danger of explosion!

  • Open the battery compartment on the device's underside.
  • Pull out the plug contacts from the housing and remove flat batteries, if applicable.
  • Attach a 9V block battery to the plug contacts.
  • Place the battery into the housing and close the battery compartment.
  • When the device is malfunctioning or the displays BYPASS or DRIVER are getting low, the battery might be discharged and should be changed as described above.
  • Remove the battery if the device is not used for a longer period to avoid leaking or the batteries becoming flat.
  • In order to ensure long battery lifetime, use alkaline battery types only.

External power supply

A power unit can also be used as an alternative to the battery.

warning Make sure you only use power units that are in accordance with the applicable safety regulations.
Only a power unit as described in the following can be used.
Observe the safety instructions in the operating instructions for the power unit.

A suitable power unit has the following properties:

Output voltage 9 V= (direct current)
Stabilising necessary
Load capacity at least 75mA
Connection plug 5.5mm outer diameter
2.1 mm inner diameter
Polarity Negative inside
Positive outside
  • Plug the low-voltage plug of the power unit into input 9 VOLT DC (15).
  • Plug the power supply into the wall socket.
  • If there is a battery inserted, it is automatically switched off. However, it should be removed if the power unit is used over a longer period of time.

Connection and operation

The device will only turn on when you insert a 6.3 mm jack plug into the input GUITAR IN.

warning Always use suitable shielded phono or cinch cables for connecting inputs and outputs. Use of other, unsuitable cables may lead to malfunctioning.
To avoid distortions or mismatchings that could damage the unit, the inputs and outputs must only be connected to devices with the suitable phono or cinch terminals.

Connection and Operation - Part 1

  1. Control DRIVE for setting the amplification.
  2. Control TREBLE for sound settings in the treble range.
  3. Control BASS for sound settings in the bass range.
  4. Control LEVEL for setting of the volume at the output.
  5. Control REVERB for setting the echo intensity.
  6. Control TIME for setting the echo delay.
  7. Control AMP for selection of amplifier characteristics:
    TWEED = Fender sound
    BRIT = Marshall sound
    FIERY = Mesa Boogie sound
  8. Control MOD for settings of gain intensity level.
  9. Control MIC for selection of simulated microphone position:
CLSIC = high treble content with clear sound
CNTR = high middle tone and bass content
OFF X = similar to CNTR, but with softer sound and less high middle tones
  10. Control MP3 MIX for activation or deactivation of input MP3/CD IN (14). With activated input, the present signal is mixed with the guitar signal.
  11. Control DRIVER for activation or deactivation of effects (LED BYPASS (12) flashes > effects switched off, LED DRIVER (12) flashes > effects switched on).
  12. LEDs BYPASS/DRIVER for display of mode (see point 11).

Connection and Operation - Part 2

  1. Connection GUITAR IN for connection of music instrument. As soon as a plug is inserted, the device switches on automatically.
  2. Connection MP3/CD IN for connection of external signal sources.
  3. Connection 9 VOLT DC for connection of a power unit (not included in the delivery).
  4. Connection PHONES for connection of headphones.
  5. Connection OUTPUT for connection of guitar amplifier/mixer.
  6. Connection SEND for connection to the input of an external effect device.
  7. Connection RETURN for connection to the output of an external effect device.
  8. Connection LINE OUT for connection of a HiFi amplifier or recording device.

Additional areas of use

Additionally to the use as guitar modelling pre-amplifier, the device can also be used for the following purposes:

  • Effect device for other instruments such as acoustic guitars, bass guitars, keyboads, etc. Observe that the input is not overamplified.
  • Connection to home HiFi devices to e.g. use the home amplifier as guitar amplifier or to feed-in background music via the MP3/CD input. When connecting the device to a home amplifier, please observe that home loudspeakers are not as unsensitive as guitar amplifier loudspeakers. Heavily distorted guitar sound can easily damage these loudspeakers.
  • Connection of headphones, e.g. for practice without disturbances.
  • Use without music instrument as effect device for mixers, etc.

Disposal

Dispose of the product at the end of its service life in accordance with the current statutory regulations.

Disposal of Used Batteries/Storage Batteries
The user is legally obliged (battery regulation) to return used batteries and storage batteries. Do not dispose of used batteries via the household rubbish.

Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing harmful substances are marked with the opposite symbols, to indicate that disposal in the domestic waste is forbidden. The designations for the relevant heavy metals are: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return used batteries/storage batteries free of charge to any collecting point of your local authority, to our stores or to any other store where batteries/storage batteries are sold.

You thus fulfill your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
