1. What is the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver?
The CAT5 DB9 Line Driver from Black Box extends control and remote access of any
RS 232 device up to 1000m / 3300ft away. Use it for example to give remote access
from a touch screen, or Creston presentation unit or to transfer data between computers
This Guide illustrates the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver and explains how to install it.
The CAT5 DB9 Line Driver system consists of:
1 Local unit, 1 Remote unit and 2 Power adapters.

3. Connecting the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver system
The figure below illustrates the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver system connections.
Up to 330m / 1000ft connect a Power adapter to either the Local or Remote CAT5
DB9 Line Driver unit. For distances of more than 330m / 1000ft connect Power
adapters to both Extender units.

Once connected the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver system is ready to transmit RS 232
signals.
4. Recommendation
In the CAT5 DB9 Line Driver system the CAT5 cables carry electrical power.
Therefore do NOT connect them to any other device. To avoid this we recommend
that you attach the stickers provided to the ends of each CAT5 cable.
