Please read these operating instructions carefully before using your lantern, and retain them for further use.
Record the following numbers, to be quoted when dealing with Freeplay™ regarding this product:
The Lantern is equipped with two different energy supply facilities, a carbon steel spring and a rechargeable NiCd battery.
The Carbon Steel Spring stores energy created by winding the handle. The energy is released on demand and converted to electricity, which in turn powers the lantern.
An internal 650mAh Rechargeable Battery provides for up to two hours of shine time when fully charged by an AC/DC or a car adapter.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OPEN THE LANTERN CASE
The Freeplay™ Self-Powered Lantern contains a powerful spring which could cause injury if the Lantern case is opened.
The Freeplay™ Self-Powered Lantern is a dual brightness flashlight that may be operated directly by spring generated energy, or off its rechargeable battery. It also has an emergency flasher unit that enables you to use the unit as a distress beacon.
Hold the Lantern firmly (with the switch in the OFF position) whilst cranking the handle clockwise. Approximately 55 turns fully energises the spring. In the OFF position this energy will be preserved indefinitely by applying a mechanical brake to the system and will be ready for use at the flick of a switch. Select one of the two brightness settings (NORM or MAX) to operate the bulb at either normal or maximum brightness.
Charge the battery using a mains adapter or via successive spring discharges. To charge from the mains, switch to OFF, plug in an AC/DC 12v 300mA adapter (or 12v car adapter) and insert the DC jack into the DC IN socket at the rear of the lantern. A red light on the switch seal will illuminate indicating that the unit is charging. After approximately 6 hours the red light will go out - indicating that the flashlight is fully charged.
The battery can also be charged using successive spring dumps into the battery. With the switch in the OFF position wind the flashlight fully. Set the switch to CHG (charge) and allow the spring to unwind. Repeat the process to increase the level of charge in the battery.
The lantern is equipped with an emergency flasher unit. With the switch in the NORM position grip the lens assembly, twist anti-clockwise and withdraw it from the lantern body. Move the switch situated behind the lens assembly marked FLASH to enable the flasher circuit (see diagram).
When not used for illumination the lantern can be used as a generator - supplying power to most appliances using 2 AA batteries (limited to 3V and 350mA).Wind the Lantern and insert the Power Out lead (available from your Freeplay™ retailer) and connect to auxiliary appliance. Set the switch to CHG position.
