    MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY We guarantee each ALMACO sheller to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year from date of shipment from the factory. Our obligation under this warranty is limited to the replacement or the repair at our Nevada, Iowa factory of such part as shall appear to us, upon inspection, to have been defective in material or workmanship.

    General Safety Every year, many accidents occur which could have been avoided by a few seconds of thought and a safer approach to handling research equipment. Designers build in as many safety features as possible, such as safety shields for bearing and other moving parts, but the designer cannot guarantee safety.
  • Page 11 Keep all decals in good condition and replace any that are missing or damaged. New decals are available from ALMACO, refer to Safety Decal Locations later in this section for ordering information. Be sure new equipment, components and repair parts display all required safety decals.

  • Page 17 Operation Maizer Intro The ALMACO ‘Maizer’ sheller utilizes rubber belts to gently shell grain off the cob. You can shell single ears or batch samples. The sheller provides excellent clean out capability with no carryover between samples. The sheller opens up like a clam shell so you can easily check for transgenic material or service the machine.

    Adjustments Incline Feeder Belt The feed conveyor belt can be tightened or loosened by adjusting the nut on the feed conveyor adjustment. There is an adjustment on both sides of the machine. Both will need to be adjusted the same amount otherwise the belt may not track properly.
  • Page 19 Tightening and Tracking Shelling Belts Improperly tightened belts can adversely affect on the shelling capabilities of the machine. The shelling belts can be tightened and tracked using the belt tensioner indicators. Newer belts may stretch slightly. Check tensioners weekly to ensure proper belt tension. There are four tensioners on every machine. Belt Tensioner To adjust tensioner: 1.
  • Page 20 Sheller belt adjustment (distance between shelling belts) If the sheller is leaving kernels on the cobs or breaking cobs up, the shelling belts might be spaced too wide or too narrow. You can adjust these belts in the following method; 1.
  • Page 21 Changing the shelling belts 1. Stop the belt someplace where the belt lacing is easily accessible, the bottom belt must be stopped by the access window. 2. Unlatch the tension adjustment so the belts become loose. 3. Straighten the end of the lacing zipper, pull out the lacing zipper and remove the old belt.
  • Page 22 Cob Chain Adjustment 1. Remove the guards on the cob chain bearing from both sides of the machine. 2. Loosen the nuts on the bearing and adjust as needed, the chain must be tightened sufficiently to achieve at approximately 3/8" clearance between the cob chain and the seed funnel divider.
  • Page 23 Aspiration Adjustment You can change the amount of air being aspirated off the grain stream. If the adjustment is too narrow or closed, you may be aspirating good kernels out. If the adjustment is too wide the dust collection system may not do an adequate job of removing bees’...

    Maizer Loading and Unloading Side Loading – If you are picking up the maizer from the side, make sure you insert the forks through both sets of lift pockets. The lift pockets provide a save easy way to move the maizer.
  • Page 25 Maizer Loading and Unloading End Loading – If you are picking up the maizer from the end. Insert two 4” x 4” through the lift pockets; they should be 48” long. The fork truck forks should also be at least 48” long to properly pick up the maizer from the end. The best end of the maizer to pick up from using this method is the sheller belt end as shown below.

    50 hours Check conveyor belts, make sure they are tracking straight, adjust as needed. 50 hours Remove plant debris and dirt which may have accumulated around the maizer. 50 hours Check alignment between safety switch and safety tongue. Adjust as needed.
