Using This Guide Who Should Use This Guide This guide is intended for any user or administrator of the Facilis HUB Shared Storage Server system. What This Guide Contains This guide covers the information you will need to: Install the enclosure and drives ...
The Server chassis used for the HUB models contain redundant field replaceable power supplies. It is recommended that each power supply be connected to a separate circuit to maintain proper grounding. The Facilis 8 contains a single field replaceable power supply. An uninterruptable power supply (UPS) is also highly recommended.
HUB 16/32 Enclosure Front Panel The front panel of the Facilis HUB system is used to start up and shut down the unit and to monitor hard drive activity through LED indicators. The drive carriers are inserted in the front of the unit during initial installation, or in the event of drive replacement.
The front panel lights and LED’s on the Facilis 8 are identical to the HUB 16/32. Enclosure Front Panel Covers All Facilis servers have a front cover that can be kept in place to cover the drive sled release handles. If access to the drives is necessary, the cover can be removed by simply pulling it away from the front of the enclosure.
AC Power Input The Facilis 8 and Hub One rear panel is very similar to this diagram. Power Supplies – One power supply in the HUB chassis is replaceable while the unit is running. The unit will run as long as at least 1 power supplies are active.
This section describes the slot configuration and preferred installation location of PCI-e hardware. When looking at a HUB 16 or Facilis 8 from the back the slot numbers go right to left. See the back panel diagram above. Below is the slot configuration and recommended setup.
Chapter 2 – Hardware Installation This chapter describes how to install your Facilis HUB shared storage system and additional hardware peripherals. Before You Begin The location of the unit should be cool, clean and vibration-free. Make sure you have all the components that shipped with the system available at the time of installation.
Installing the Drives The Facilis HUB Shares Storage SATA drives ship boxed separately from the enclosure. If the SATA drives have been left at or below 45F (7C) for several hours (on a delivery truck or loading dock), allow the drives to return to room temperature before inserting and powering on the unit.
The following explains how to cable the HUB Shared Storage Server system to clients directly or any switches in your configuration. Keep the location of the edit rooms in mind when installing the HUB Shared Storage Server. (See Appendix D or call Facilis customer support for additional information on cabling options and specifications).
Cabling a Fibre Switch Several QLOGIC switches are supported ranging from 8-16 port 4Gbit models to 8- 20 port 8Gbit models. ATTO/Brocade 16Gbit switch models are also supported. The diagram below shows a standard single-server, dual-zone (0-7; 8-15) configuration, with two channels from the server fibre channel card connecting to the first (0) and last (15) switch ports.
10Gbit or 40Gbit uplink option (10Gbit/1Gbit), all 10Gbit Optical, and all 10Gbit RJ45 (copper). There are no specific cabling locations for the switch itself. The Facilis Shared File System cabling will consist of either one or four cables (teaming option) from the server to the switch.

4. Double click on the first Network Adapter listed (see above). You will be presented with the Network Connection Properties Window. Click on the Teaming tab in that window. 5. In the Teaming tab select the “Team this adapter with other adapters” option and click the New Team button (see above).

'Next'. 7. In the next New Team Wizard window select Adaptive Load Balancing and click 'Next'. If you are using a switch other than that supplied by Facilis and it supports the IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation option you may want to consider using that option.
8. At the last New Team Wizard window click Finish. This may take a few minutes. 9. Once the team is created it will default to using DHCP. If you are not using DHCP you will have to assign a static IP address to the Team adapter.
Client connectivity is the same as any other Facilis HUB Shared Storage server. Hardware The Facilis HUB One Server physical attributes are discussed in this section. The Hub Server chassis contains redundant OS hard drives and field replaceable power supplies units (PSUs).
Ethernet – The Ethernet ports are supplied for network access to the unit, communication to the optional Fibre Channel switch, and when used in conjunction with the Facilis Shared File system, access from Ethernet clients to the Hub Server virtual volumes. Direct Ethernet connectivity can be configured using a single Gigabit Ethernet port on the server.

This alarm can be silenced by depressing the red button on the back panel of the chassis. If you suspect a fan has failed contact Facilis Support for a replacement fan and specific instructions to install. If you suspect a Power supply has failed contact Facilis Support for diagnosis and a replacement.
Adding an XP16 Expansion The Facilis XP16 is a 16 drive SAS attached expansion chassis. The XP16 can be added to a HUB 16 to convert it to a HUB 32. The XP16 ships with the enclosure, the hard drives, two SAS cables and a 12G SAS card.
An NL16 can be added to any server as Nearline storage that can be shared as a volume via the Facilis Shared Filesystem or connected to any client as Direct Attached Storage. The RAID set will come pre-built and configured as ordered. To re-configure the NL16 contact Facilis support.
All Facilis 2U servers (Facilis 8, Facilis HUB ONE, Facilis HUB 8S) ship standard with a 20” rail kit. All Facilis 4U servers (HUB 16, HUB Hybrid 16, HUB 16S, XP16, NL 16) ship standard with a 26” rail kit.

The next step is to assemble each receiving rail and mount them to the rack. Mounting brackets need to be installed on both ends of the receiving rails in order to attach the rails to the rack. These brackets should be positioned based on the depth of the rack.
