Wat is CO ?

Koolstofdioxide, beter bekend onder de chemische
afkorting CO , is de belangrijkste voedingsstof voor
2
planten. CO wordt geproduceerd door alle levende
2
organismen in het aquarium via verbranding van zuurstof
(O ). Planten zetten deze CO weer om in zuurstof en
2 2
bouwstenen voor hun groei. CO is dan ook de belangrijkst
2
voedingsstof voor groeiende planten.
Waarom moet ik de CO -concentratie bepalen?
2
De CO concentratie in normale aquaria is relatief laag,
2
namelijk maximaal 2 mg/l. Voor een optimale plantengroei
is echter een hogere CO -concentratie van 15 tot 25 mg/l
2
nodig. Daarom is de toevoeging van CO
plantengroei te stimuleren, b.v. met de Colombo Flora-
Grow CO nano. CO concentraties boven de 30 mg/l
2 2
kunnen echter gevaarlijk zijn voor vissen en moeten dus
ten alle tijde vermeden worden. Met de Colombo CO
indicator meet u permanent, 24 uur per dag, de CO
concentratie in het aquariumwater en kunt u naargelang
de CO -bemesting daaraan aanpassen.

Wat is de juiste CO waarde voor mijn aquarium?
2
Voor een optimale plantengroei is een CO
tot 25 mg/l nodig. Het CO -gehalte kan sterk variëren over
2
de dag. Omdat de CO -concentratie bepaald wordt door
2
een chemisch samenspel van KH en pH, is een KH van
min. 4ºDH nodig om de CO -concentratie te stabiliseren
2
en te hoge uitschieters te voorkomen. Daarnaast nemen
waterplanten alleen CO op als er licht is, en dus niet
2
's-nachts. Als gevolg loopt de CO -waarde langzaam op
2
tot een maximum aan het eind van de nacht. Het is dus het
beste om de CO -bemesting in te stellen aan de hand van
2
de CO -waarde net voordat de lampen van het aquarium
2
aangaan. Op deze manier houdt u altijd het hoogste
niveau aan en kunnen te hoge gehaltes gemakkelijk
vermeden worden.
Hoe meet ik de CO -concentratie met de CO
2
Ingebruikname: Neem het witte gedeelte van de indicator
af en vul het reservoir, gemaakt van helder plastic, met de
bijgevoegde indicator vloeistof tot ong. 1-2 mm onder de
rand. Plaats nu de witte kap terug op de houder met de
opening richting de zuignap. Plaats nu de indicator in het
aquarium met de zuignap naar beneden, en plaats het op
een plek met goede doorstroming maar niet in de buurt van
de CO -diffuser. Binnen een aantal uur heeft de indicator
2
zich aangepast aan uw aquarium en geeft vanaf dan 24 uur
per dag de CO -concentratie in het aquariumwater weer.

De indicator kan 3 verschillende kleuren weergeven. Om
een duidelijk onderscheid te kunnen maken tussen de
bedoelde kleuren, staan op de verpakking de juiste kleuren
weergegeven.
Groen: het CO gehalte in het aquarium is optimaal,

namelijk 15-25 mg/l. Bij deze hoeveelheid CO
plantengroei in uw aquarium optimaal zijn.
Blauw: het CO gehalte in het aquarium is te laag, namelijk
2
<10 mg/l. Verhoog nu iedere dag langzaam en stapsgewijs
de CO -toevoer naar het aquarium totdat de indicator een
2
groene kleur heeft.
Geel: het CO gehalte in het aquarium is te hoog, namelijk
2
>30 mg/l. Stop de CO toevoer zolang als het duurt totdat
2
de indicator een blauwe kleur weergeeft. Hervat daarna
de CO -toevoer en verhoog deze langzaam en stapsgewijs
2
totdat de indicator een groene kleur heeft.
Vervang iedere 2 maanden de indicatorvloeistof om
een juiste werking te garanderen. Er zit voldoende
indicatorvloeistof in de set voor ruim 2 jaar gebruik. Hierna
adviseren wij om een nieuwe set te kopen omdat door
aanslag met vuil, algen en bacteriën de indicator slecht
afleesbaar wordt.
