In case of malfunction, reset the device using the On/Off touch button. 6.2. Handwash mode Using the Semmelweis Scanner in Handwash mode, can teach you the proper hand washing technique. The principle of Handwash mode is creating artificial contamination on the hands via applying a UV-labeled agent to the entire surface of the hands with GlitterBug Potion (section 5.3.) then washing it with soap and warm water following the WHO guidelines.
In each experiment one selected hand region was treated with alcohol-based trainingrub, containing a fluorescent dye. Digital image of the hand was recorded with the Semmelweis Scanner. After recording the picture, the artificial hand was stamped into a blood agar plate (Fig. 4).
During our limited scale study, we were able to prove that regions on the hand treated sufficiently with the trainingrub containing fluorescent dye and subsequently recorded by the Semmelweis Scanner are in fact disinfected; not developing colonies after a regular blood agar infusion and a standard 24 hour incubation time.
