    2.2. Intended use The Semmelweis Scanner is intended to be used by any staff member of an institution; in various areas e.g., healthcare, biotechnology, food or hospitality industry, where the correct performance of hand hygiene is inevitable to maintain high-quality standards. The device may only be used for training purposes and hand hygiene compliance monitoring.

    2.4. Cleaning instructions Before cleaning, disconnect the unit from the main power supply. ● The side cover of the Semmelweis Scanner is aluminium, thus strong corrosive substances must not be used for cleaning. ● When cleaning the Product, avoid using rough materials, sudden shocks and scratches.

    EM 4001 or compatible 125 kHz cards: cards It is recommended to use the Semmelweis Scanner with ISO 14443A compatible cards only. There are slight differences in RFID cards from different manufacturers. It is recommended to test the particular RFID card with the Product to make sure it is working properly.

    Installation of the device is performed by the manufacturer or the distributor’s qualified personnel. The Semmelweis Scanner needs to be set up on a stand or mounted on the wall in such a way that users can easily get access to it. The scanning area should be at a convenient height.

    WiFi network (SSID: handinscan Preshared-key (password): budapest), no other WiFi network is specified and no mobile internet connection is available, then you can also launch a graphical interface on the Semmelweis Scanner to enter the data required for connecting to a WiFi network as a tertiary solution (see below).

    6. Using the Semmelweis Scanner The Semmelweis Scanner is a hand hygiene monitoring device, to be used as described below. 6.1.     In case of malfunction, reset the device using the On/Off touch button. 6.2. Handwash mode Using the Semmelweis Scanner in Handwash mode, can teach you the proper hand washing technique. The principle of Handwash mode is creating artificial contamination on the hands via applying a UV-labeled agent to the entire surface of the hands with GlitterBug Potion (section 5.3.) then washing it with soap and warm water following the WHO guidelines.

    In each experiment one selected hand region was treated with alcohol-based trainingrub, containing a fluorescent dye. Digital image of the hand was recorded with the Semmelweis Scanner. After recording the picture, the artificial hand was stamped into a blood agar plate (Fig. 4).

    During our limited scale study, we were able to prove that regions on the hand treated sufficiently with the trainingrub containing fluorescent dye and subsequently recorded by the Semmelweis Scanner are in fact disinfected; not developing colonies after a regular blood agar infusion and a standard 24 hour incubation time.
