Daher stets so viel Flüssigkeit (Öl, Butter oder Wasser) einfüllen, bis die Grundfläche des Topfes vollständig bedeckt ist, bevor aufgeheizt wird. Niemals leer oder trocken aufheizen. Gusseisen mit seiner intensiven Wärmespeicherung funktioniert am besten, wenn es allmählich erhitzt und abgekühlt wird.
