Examine the tractor to ascertain if any damage has occurred in transit, and check the equipment. Report any damage or shortages to your David Brown dealer immediately. Refer to the lubricatio n chart on page (and to page locate all the greasing points, make sure that all nipples are free from dirt and lubricate with the grease gun.
At the end of the first 25 hours' work tighten all the engine bolts (pariicuarly at the cylinder head and manifold); drain, flush-out and refill the sumps and fit a new oil filter element. The gear box should be drained, flushed out and refilled after the first 50 hours of runnin g .
OPERA.TING THE TR. A. CTOR (Fig. 1) (On models with agricultural lighting only) Marked " S " and " H." With the switch in the " S " position, the rear lamp is on. In the ,: H" position both front and rear lamps will operate.

Engaging lever identical with the one referred to above, and shown in Fig. 6. The control lever has three positions, indicated on the instruction plate attached to the cover of the unit. With the control lever forward, the pulley and P.T.O. shaft run at low speed; centre is neutral, and rear position is for high speed.
Avoid constantly varying the throttle control until the engine is hot, as this will cause incomplete vaporization of the fuel, resulting in irregular running and excessive crankcase dilution. If the engine is reasonably warm (having been stopped for only five or ten minutes) it will restart on vaporizing oil.

The David Brown tractor is easy to drive, hut like everything else .it can he done well or badly. Bad driving increases wear-and-tear and repair hills and does not save any working time. Maxims of good driving are :- Avoid sudden acceleration or braking.
The gear positions for the 4-speed gearbox 1 - 3 and the 6-speed gearbox H- 2 - R are cast on the gearbox cover. NOTE : Operation of the 6-speed gearbox is similar to the 4-speed type. It is always advisable to have a spare set of plugs, so that those which have been removed may he properly serviced. David Brown dealers have special equipment for this work. Referring to Fig. 6 and 14 drain -while warm, flush. out and refill with the correct oil (see Page 26).

· Jack up the front of the tractor and examine the steering king pins and front wheel hearings (adjustment of front hub hearings referred to on Page 32). Examine the front axle swivel or trunnion bracket hushes and the steering rods. Have the entire system, including the battery, checked over by an authorised dealer.

The king pins and steering joints are lubricated by grease at the points in Fig. 9. The steering unit is lubricated by mist from the trans• mission and requires no special attention. The specification of the David Brown "Cropmaster" VAG/IC Series is substantially the same as the V AK/IC Series model given in this instruction book except that the engine is designed to run on petrol instead of T.V.O. and is, therefore, provided with a petrol manifold, fuel pump and high compression pistons.
