Even if the total weight does not exceed the maximum allowable load, a passenger holding a child on his/her lap will not be allowed because this is highly dangerous.

    4-3 SWITCHES  Key Switch It turns of/off the power supply. When it is turned clockwise, the power will be ON and when turned counter-clockwise, the power will be off. A key chain for Key Switch may be used if need arises by attaching it to the key.

    4-4 KICK STAND This Stand prevents STAIR CHAIR toppling backward while the passenger is being seated/unseated from STAIR CHAIR. In order to prevent an accident, UP/DOWN Switch won't function while Stand is extended. Before using STAIR CHAIR, be sure to retract Kick Stand.

    4-8 HOW TO USE THE STAIR GAUGE  Detach Stair Gauge, which is attached to the side of the left frame. u Slide Stair Gauge to the right. v Pull it upward and match the positions of the holes and the catches. w Dislodge the gauge from the catches by pulling it toward you, and then slide it to the right to remove it from the frame.

    BATTERY CHARGE SYSTEM 5-1 BATTERY A Sealed Lead Battery is used in STAIR CHAIR. It is a maintenance-free and non water requiring Battery. Whenever Battery is handled, be sure to follow the cautions shown below. NOTE: Immediately after Battery is used, Battery must be charged using special Battery Charger. If insufficient battery charge is left, less power for following operations will result in difficulty of operation.

    5-3 CHARGING PROCEDURE  Remove Short Plug on Operation Box and connect Charger's Plug to Charging Receptacle. NOTE: The plug has a correct orientation. Match the orientation using the thick pin as a guide and insert it. When charging is complete (during operation), connect Short Plug to Charging Receptacle.

    OPERATION 7-1 SEAT THE PASSENGER IN STAIR CHAIR  When a passenger mounts the machine, extend Kick Stand so that the machine does not trip backward even if the passenger pushes his/her own body against the frame. WARNING Be sure to extend Kick Stand whenever a passenger is mounting or dismounting the machine.

     When traveling on flat ground, the operator shall hold the handle part of Back Support Frame with his/her both hands and use Traveling Wheels without Rubber Crawlers (with the part slightly uplifted as shown in the illustration). NOTE: If for some emergency the operator must leave STAIR CHAIR while passenger transport is in progress, he/she must sets Kick Stand and check that conditions are safe before leaving...
  • Page 28 (2) Starting the ascent Turn Key Switch to ON. Power Continue to press the upper side of UP/DOWN Supply switch and at the same time hold the handle securely with both hands. NOTE: Until Rubber Crawlers touch the third step, the balance of the machine tends to become unstable.
  • Page 29 (4) Stopping STAIR CHAIR in the middle of the Stable stairs (with a three-point contact) Once the finger is released from Switch, Electromagnetic Brake will function immediately and STAIR CHAIR will immediately stop. Because lugs rest on the stair's corners, STAIR CHAIR will not slide down the stairs.

     After STAIR CHAIR is temporarily stopped, tilt Handle slowly toward the operator. STAIR CHAIR's Wheels will contact the floor.     7-4 DESCENDING STAIRS (1) Starting descend operation  Hold the machine at a right angle to the stairs and position the stop mark to the edge of the top step, and stop the machine temporally without fail. At a right angle to the stairs Set the machine with the front facing the stairs.

    7-5 DISMOUNTING  When dismounting, extend Kick Stand to prevent overturning in case the passenger leans on the frame side. Open Kick Stand Be sure to extend Kick Stand whenever a passenger is WARNING mounting or dismounting the machine. Otherwise, the machine may overturn backwards, leading to a head injury.

    DAILY MAINTENANCE AND CARE 8-1 BATTERY z When STAIR CHAIR is not to be used or its Battery Pack is to be charged, turn off Key Switch and remove Key. If Key Switch is kept in the ON position, Battery will quickly discharge and it may not have capacity to run STAIR CHAIR the following day.

    PERIODIC VOLUNTARY INSPECTIONS The following table provides a brief description of the periodic voluntary inspection procedure for STAIR CHAIR SC-5. Be sure to carry out periodic inspections. Failing to do so may cause an accident or may shorten the life of the machine.
