Introduction The YK801B comes already assembled. The only construction required is to connect the probe assembly to the reader unit. General Description The model 801B Water Quality Analyser Reading Unit is a robust Optical DO field instrument which can be used for real time water quality measurements or for remote operation using a built in data logger.
Sensors Temperature Range: -2 - 50ºC Accuracy: ±0.05ºC Resolution: 0.01ºC Type: Pt. 1000 platinum element Optical DO Range: 0 - 200% saturation 0 - 20 mg/l Accuracy: ±0.5% Resolution: 0.1% Physical Cable length: 3 m or 10 m. Other lengths made to order up to 100 meters. Dimensions: 26 mm diameter, 270 mm long...
Description of Reader Unit The reader unit is housed in a tough, durable, high impact polycarbonate case with a keypad and a colour TFT LCD display mounted on the front panel. On the bottom of the case is a probe/charging connector. The connector also has a polarising pin so that an incorrect connection cannot be made.
Connector Pins The connector pins on the bottom of the reader unit connectors are numbered in clockwise order from the polarising pin (see figure 2). The following table lists the purpose of each pin on the connector. Communications Pin 1 Ground Negative Pin 2...
Description of Probe The probe assembly consists of a sensor, cable and connectors. The body of the probe is made of stainless steel with a PVC head. The interface cable is permanently connected to the probe body to eliminate the need for underwater connectors.
Temperature Sensor The temperature sensor consists of a Pt. 1000 platinum element, housed in a stainless steel sheath for robustness and corrosion resistance. The temperature sensor requires little maintenance. See Figure 4. Figure 4 Temperature sensor Optical DO Sensor Optical DO will emit an infrared light when excited by a blue light which is detected by a filtered detector.
Assembly The YK801B comes already assembled. The only construction required is to connect the probe assembly to the reader unit. Connecting the Probe Assembly To attach the probe assembly, first unscrew the knurled connector cap from the sensor connector of the reader unit. The connector cap is attached to the reader unit by a chain so that it can be replaced whenever the probe assembly is disconnected.
Operation Operating Instructions The following is provided as a quick reference for operation of the instrument. To gain maximum performance and reliability from the YK801B, make sure that you read and understand the entire user manual before operating the instrument. The reader unit has easy to follow instructions for each function.
Key Pad Description Time: It is automatically displayed on the top right of the main menu. See Figure 7. MAIN MENU MENU: Select STORE: Store data in real time and by holding down the key, a data tag can be entered. ESC: To exit a particular routine.
Upload Data from S618 to PC Clear Store Memory (1) From the main menu select logger settings press the ENTER and then selecting Clear 801B (or 620) Memory. Press ENT and the operator will proceed and clear memory. Calibration Constants to PC (2) The calibration constants can be uploaded to a PC for quality assurance reports.

In order to upload the data stored in memory to a computer, you will need terminal software i.e. YK Terminal or similar. To transfer data, perform the following operations: 1. From Main MENU select Upload to PC and press ENTER. 2.
Main Menu Logger Settings Start/Stop Logger time (5) The YK801B can also be programmed to take measurements at regular intervals and to store the results in the logger memory. The fastest sample rate in Standard Logging Mode is one per two minutes, the stirrer is activated one minute before the sample is to be taken and will switch off immediately after the data has been recorded.
Set Up Menu S618 Settings Sensor Serial Number (1) The reader reads the serial number of the probe attached to the 801B. If more than one probe is used it identifies the correct probe to be used with the reader unit. Set Clock (2) The clock uses 24 hour format DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS From main MENU select R801B Settings->Set Clock and then follow the on screen instructions to...
Make sure that you rinse both the probe and container before each calibration. The standard solutions are available from YEO-KAL Electronics Pty Ltd or most major scientific suppliers. Note: Zero calibration will overcome offset due to optical obscuration. This the most important calibration point and should be done in a large black container.

2. Press the ARROW keys to Lo Pt Raw to make the selection then press ENTER to calibrate the low temperature range 0-20 Press ENTER to proceed. Place the probe into a stirred water bath. 3. After pressing ENTER, raw data from the temperature sensor will appear. Wait until the readings are stable and make a note of the reading on the calibration thermometer and press ENTER.

6. Place the probe into a 25 - 50 C water bath. 7. Press ENTER, the raw data is displayed. 8. Immerse the probe in a stirred water bath held at a constant temperature between 25 C and wait for the probe to reach a constant temperature. Make a note of the temperature on the calibration thermometer and press ENTER.

Use ENTER key and arrow key Set Hi Val temperature value. 10. Select Done & Cal. Press ENTER. 11. The temperature calibration is now complete.
Optical DO Calibration The Optical DO sensor is calibrated by distilled water and known Optical DO value water. Proceed as follows: 1. Select Optical DO from the Calibration. Lo Pt Raw or Hi Pt Raw will appear. Press the ARROW keys to Lo Pt Raw to make the selection then press ENTER to calibrate the low Optical DO range in zero oxygen water.
Internal Bluetooth and GPS The 801B reader unit has been fitted with internal Bluetooth and GPS. Bluetooth This method can be used to communicate to a PC. Calibration, real time and logged data can be transmitted from the 801B to the PC and calibration constants from the PC to the 801B. To use Bluetooth communication a Bluetooth enabled PC is required.
Ensure that the connector caps are secured onto any connectors which are not in use. Battery Replacement The model 801B battery is a rechargeable battery. Contact Yeo-Kal Electronics for information. If it needs changing return it to factory or a qualified agent. Probe Maintenance There is little maintenance required for the probe except keeping the optics clean with a soft cloth.
