PATIENT IMMOBILIZATION DEVICE
Introduction
MOLDCARE RI II, a base material (polystyrene beads +
hydraulic urethane resin) encapsulated into a polypropylene
knit cover material, is intended for stabilizing the position of
a patient during diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy, etc.
The product is intended to be used by medical doctors and
radiology technicians. Injecting water into MOLDCARE RI II
by spray, as hydraulic urethane resin in the base material
reacts with water to become rigid, it can be molded to fit a
patient's posture for diagnosis and medical treatment.
This product is composed of non-conductive, non-metallic,
non-magnetic materials, and is MR Safe since it is not
affected by regular MR scans.
Precautions for use
Warning
• Do not use hot water since there maybe a risk of low
temperature burn injuries. Use water of around 20 to
40°C. Do not use hot water.
• Precautions for patients with skin disorders (such as
infected wounds, ulceration, rash or swelling) in the
affected areas.
When the product is used, appropriate local control and
cautious application are needed. There may be a risk of
exacerbation of symptoms.
• If symptoms such as pain, numbness or skin disorders
occur during application of the product, stop immediately.
• During and immediately after molding, if a patient
complains of heat, immediately detach the product, since
heat is generated during hardening.
Contraindication
• Do not use the fixing gear for any other patient than for
whom it was intended. Using it for another patient may
cause insufficient holding and fixing of posture, thus
preventing proper treatment.
• Do not touch or take out the base material by opening the
cover material. If the water-curing urethane resin in the
base material touches the skin, it may irritate the skin.
Strictly obey the following: If the skin is touched, wipe off
any uncured urethane resin stuck to the skin thoroughly
before it cures by using alcohol. The resin cannot be
wiped off after it has cured.
Caution
• Should any symptom of skin irritation or redness appear
either while using this product to process a fixing gear or
during treatment by using the fixing gear, immediately
stop using it and take appropriate measures.
• Break the seal of the aluminum package one at a time
immediately before use.
Since the moisture in the air initiates the curing reaction of
the urethane resin, leaving this product untouched after
breaking the seal will cause its impression characteristic
to deteriorate and prevent reproduction of the patient's
posture.
• Use the product immediately after the seal is broken.
Once the seal is opened, It cannot be stored.
• Do not use the product if the package is broken or a part
of the contents is hard.
• Do not put anything on the processed product. It may
cause deformation.
Instruction Manual
• Read this instruction manual carefully to fully understand the characteristics of this product
before use.
• Keep this manual to hand for easy reference when necessary.
• Do not use the product if any polyurethane resin has
leached into the covering material.
• Use lukewarm water to wash off any stains on the product.
Organic solvents may dissolve the basic material,
resulting in deformation of the fixing device.
• The color of the product may change over time, but this
causes no problems with subsequent use.
• Always use in well-ventilated areas. Never use in
enclosed spaces.
• If any serious accidents occur in relation to the use of this
equipment, immediately report it to the device
manufacturer and the regulatory authority.
• Dispose of in accordance with all applicable local
regulations.
Processing procedure
Prepare a spray filled with water, a towel and Mold Care RI
II to process a fixing gear.
1. Inject the water into both sides of the product
Aluminum pack can be
opened just before use the
product.
Water is injected at 10 cm
interval evenly on to the both
sides of whole area by
pressing the spray filled with water onto the surface of the
both sides of product. (since the covering material is
water-repellent, water does not penetrate without
injection).
• Start molding within 3 minutes from breaking the
aluminum package, or it would be difficult to mold for
getting hard.
2. Gently wipe away water and adjust the mold
beforehand.
1) Gently wipe away drops of
water attached to the surface
with a towel or similar.
2) Place the product on a
working table and adjust the
height of the product.
3) To make molding easier, press in the sites beforehand
where the head and neck are to be molded.
3. Molding
1) Position the patient as
required. (Position the patient
as required within 3 minutes
of injecting the water.) Lay
the patient over the product
and hold the product lightly
for about five minutes to
obtain a mold.
2) Harden the product up to almost complete hardness. Do
not attempt to correct the shape: this will reduce
adherence between the basic materials and weaken the
material.
4. Remove the patient slowly from the product.
1) Remove the patient slowly from
the product slowly so as not to
distort it.
