About this guide Introduction The α811 (RFID Smart Reader) provides highest quality RFID reading performance with default or optional features, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2D scanner, 3G, Camera, NFC. With Android OS, users are able to experience efficient working performance. This guide is designed for helping users to operate α811 effectively. Please read the guide carefully before using α811.

Back view Item Description α Reset key To reset 811 if it’s stuck and physical buttons are not working. Camera Takes photos and record videos (8Megapixel). α811 Home Screen The Home Screen displays when α811 turns on. It is the starting point of all apps and features. It displays icons, shortcuts, and widgets for apps. Depending on the OS version, the Home Screen might appear different. To update OS version, contact your local partner or visit our web site for more information.
In order to capture image or movie on α811, you can use below functions. Gestured Screenshot Swipe the screen from the left edge to the right with two fingers. To disable this feature, please refer to chapter 7.18 on page 104. Gestured Screen Record Swipe the screen from the left edge to the right with three fingers, and Swipe again to stop recording.

Status Bar The status bar appears at the top of the screen. It displays the status icons and the current time on the right, and the notification icons on the left. Getting Started Setup Installing Replacing a Micro SD card There are two slots for a micro SD and a micro SIM card in the inner compartment on the back of your device. A micro SD card is required for external storage. Up to 32G supported. To insert the cards, the Card cover must be removed first by unscrewing it.
Installing and Replacing a Mini SIM card A mini SIM card is required for using mobile services. 3G mobile function are optional. Please check if your α811 is 3G enabled device first. To insert the cards, the Card cover must be removed first by unscrewing it. Before installing a card, make sure you are using the correct slot.
All cards should be purchased separately if necessary. The specifications may differ according country where the device is purchased. Contact your sales representative for more information. Installing and Replacing the Battery α811 uses Lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Slide the battery lock latch to the right ( unlock side ) and lift up the battery cover. Insert the battery into the battery slot, make sure the gold contacts are aligned.

Charging Indicators α811 provides battery status information with LED indicators on the device and on the docking cradle. When the battery is charging, LED on α811 is red. When the battery is fully charged, LED on α811 is off. When the spare battery is charging, LED on docking cradle is red. When the spare battery is fully charged, LED on docking cradle is green.
Battery Optimization Observe the following battery saving tips: Set the screen to turn off after a short period of non-use. See Setting Screen Timeout Setting on page 37. Reduce screen brightness. See Setting the Screen Brightness on page 34. Turn off all wireless radios when not in use. Turn off automatic syncing for Email, Calendar, Contacts and other applications.

General Settings This chapter provide information for General Settings to use α811 for the first time. For more specific information about settings, see Chapter 7 Settings on page 89. Setting the date and time The date and time is automatically set based on the network you are connected to. The user is only reuqired to set the time zone or set the date and the time when no connection with net wor or if the wirless LAN does not supported.

Display setting Use Display settings to change the screen birhgtness, change the backgorund image, enable screen roation, set sleep time and change font size. You can open display setting by touching from home screen. To let α811 automatically adjust the screen brightness, set Adaptive brightness enabled. By default, this function is enabled. Setting Screen Rotation By default, screen rotation is disabled as Portrait. To enable screen rotation : Swipe down with a finger from the status bar to open the quick settings panel.

Firmware Update α 811 is provided with most recently released firmware however if it’s necessary to update the firmware, you can use OS update app tool which provided as default app. Backup all the data and information from your device before OS update. Your data, such as ringtones, texts, and voice messages, may be erased during the update.

Select Online update or Local update. Touch the firmware file or Scan button to verify the package. Once the package verification succeeded, Start install button will be activated, if it’s failed, the button will stay in Grey as below images. In this case, check the package file in local area, try copy and paste proper one.

Touch Start install button and you can see Caution message for battery capacity, touch Ok button when ready otherwise charge the battery fully and start over. There is 15 seconds to automatic reboot, touch Reboot button to instant reboot action or touch Later button to go back.
Connectivity Wi-Fi Connecting to Wi-Fi network is very easy by using Quick settings pannel. Swipe down with a finger from the status bar to open the quick settings panel. Touch Wi-Fi icon to turn the function on and touch Wi-Fi , device will search available network.
To close the connection, switch the Wi-Fi icon to OFF. To save battery life, switch off the Wi-Fi connection if no use Bluetooth Connecting to Blutooth compatible devices is also easy by using Quick settings pannel. Swipe down with a finger from the status bar to open the quick settings panel. Touch Bluetooth icon to turn the function on and touch Bluetooth , you can see a list of paired devices or search available devices by touch “More Settings”.

Type or confirm the PIN, and touch PAIR, if required. If there’s no device you want to pair with on the list, tap and touch Refresh to search available devices again. You may need to start the pairing process from the headset. For details, see your headset user guide.

To send contents via Bluetooth. By Bluetooth function, you can share photos or other contents with Bluetooth-compatible devices or PC. Bluetooth connection can be made more than one at a time. You can share contents with mutiple paired devices via Bluetooth. Select a content you want to share then tap and On the Bluetooth devices list, tap the device you want to share with.

4 Applications To open application lists, touch from home screen. Installing & Uninstalling Apps You can install Apps by using Micro SD card, network connection or direct connection to PC. There’s no Google play function in α811 device. If user want to install Apps, download apk file from computer and install the file by using Micro SD card or direct PC connection.

Advanced To set advanced options: Network notification : Turn on this switch to receive a notification when your device is within range of a public Wi-Fi network. Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep : Tap this option to choose whether your device remains connected to the Wi-Fi network when your device sleeps.
Bluetooth Touch from Home screen and Bluetooth menu from Settings Switch on to enable the function if it’s switched off. Select the device you want to pair with. Paired devices can be connected to your device when Bluetooth turns on. Other devices can detect your device only if the Bluetooth setting view is open.

Mobile Network 3G Insert Mini SIM card and Reboot α811 To use Mobile 3G network, your device must be enabled 3G function, please check your device option first. 3G function is optionally provided when you order the device. After insert mini SIM card into the slot, reboot the device by pressing and holding power button. Once the deice is reboot, check if there’s mobile network icon appears on the status bar as below image.

Data Roaming If you are unavailable to use Wi-Fi network, 3G data service allows you to connect to network. To set data roaming function, touch and More on Wireless & Networks setting menu, then tap Cellular networks. You can see Data roaming menu and slid the button to enable to use Data service. If you have problem with Data service, you need to check details about your data service plan with your mobile service provider.
NFC (Near Field Communications) To use NFC, your device must be enabled NFC function, please check your device option first. NFC function is optionally provided when you order the device. To enable NFC function. Touch from Home screen and More menu from Settings Switch on the NFC function to enable the function if it’s switched off.
6 Accessories Docking Cradle Insert α811 To dock α811 into the cradle, please put it on the right position of the power connector and push it gently to fit in. Insert Battery Before charging the battery, make sure to line up the gold contacts on the battery with the contacts on the cradle.

7 Settings α Change your 811 settings To access Setting menus, touch from Home screen or Swipe down with a finger from the status bar to open the quick settings panel and then touch to see setting menu. To find a setting quickly, tap , and then type the setting that you're looking for.
Data usage You can manage your data use from this setting. On the Home screen, touch and Data usage. • Tap > Network restrictions to restrict the use of apps in the background when connected to a Wi-Fi network. USB tethering : USB tethering has the fastest speeds, you have to connect to your laptop with a USB α811 cable. battery won’t drain because it will draw power from your computer’s USB port. α811 Portable Wi-Fi hotspot : Wi-Fi tethering turns α811 into a little Wi-Fi hotspot. It creates a Wi-Fi network that you connect with your computer.

Tethering drains battery—fast. When not actively using tethering, you should disable it to save power on your Android phone and keep its battery going longer. Tap + to set up and edit virtual private network (VPN) profiles and connect to the VPNs. You need to set a screen lock pattern, PIN, or password before using the VPNs.
To set data roaming function, touch and More on Wireless & Networks setting menu, then tap Cellular networks. You can see Data roaming menu and slid the button to enable to use Data service. This menu works if your α811 is 3G mobile enabled, please check if your device has the function as an optional.

7.10 Memory Use Memory settings to manage memory use of apps. You can monitor which apps are occupying memory and how much memory is used by the apps in how long time. You can set the time duration by touching time menu below. 7.11 Users Use User settings to manage users of α811.
7.12 Tap & Play Use Tap & Play settings to use NFC payments, specific app requires and NFC function enabled device allows to use this function. Sep up a payment app. Then just hold the back of your phone up to any terminal with the contactless symbol. 7.13 Location Switch this option to On to detect your device’s location.

Network setting reset : Tap to reset all network settings, including, Wi-Fi, Cellular data, Bluetooth Factory data reset: Tap to reset to delete all data from the device’s internal storage.
