    The user must follow all procedures described in this manual so to ensure the correct use of the pressure-sensitive bumpers type GSBPS01, GSBPS02 and GSBPS03, in conjunction with the control units type GP02/E or GP02R.T.  The employer is responsible for the selection and training of the personnel charged with the installation, use and maintenance of the machine and its relevant safety system.

    Description and working principle Definition: GAMMA SYSTEM PRESSURE-SENSITIVE BUMPER is a “safety device" used as an "electro-sensitive protective device designed to detect persons or parts of person. It is described in Annex IV of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/CE. In particular, it is classified as a "safety device equipped with a sensor, capable of detecting a pressure, and a control circuit having a verification function according to the specified category and an output interface”.

    Description of the product Bumpers are made of a polyurethane material (foam) exhibiting appropriate elasticity and are coated with protective fabric. Inserted inside the bumpers is a sensitive element (“sensor”) properly secured inside the foam. The whole is closed by a frame that is glued to the foams and the aluminum plates.     SELECTING THE BUMPER WHICH BEST SUITS YOUR REQUIREMENTS In order to make the best choice for your requirements, you should keep into account several important factors, such as :  The appropriate performance level according to UNI EN ISO 13849-1 Standard and in compliance with the risk assessment of machinery or requirements demanded by possible products Standards.

    Installation WARNING! Please read this Manual carefully and completely before doing any work on the sensor or on the control device. This Manual is intended for the qualified, technical personnel charged with the installation works. The global safety of the machine and safety device depends on the quality, reliability and correct installation of the interface GAMMA SYSEM pressure-sensitive bumpers and the relevant control devices do not need any adjustment at the time of installation.
  • Page 23 The mounting surface should be suitable for the sensor you intend to use. If mounting surface is not sufficiently rigid, or if it exhibits irregularities, this can adversely affect the sensitivity and reliability of the device. If the sensor repeatedly or regularly comes into contact with a surface, try to avoid contact with sharp angles or irregularities which could result in damage.

    The same procedure is to be followed after all periodical inspections (once a month). IMPORTANT: For bumpers type GSBPS01, GSBPS02 and GSBPS03 in combination with the control units GP02/E, and GP02R.T (UNI EN ISO 13849-1), a functionality test is to be carried out each time the device is powered On.

    10.3 Testing Procedure The testing procedure shall be carried out by qualified personnel whilst installing one or more pressure- sensitive bumpers with one or more control unit and after each maintenance work, adjustment or modification to the machinery and/or machinery control circuit. Check the values of the sensor ohmic resistance as shown in the following points.

    Control unit or control device for bumpers The control unit is used to constantly control the correct operation of a sensor (safety mat, safety edge or safety bumper) through blade contacts. Blade contact is an NO contact (normally open) which makes in case of actuation thereby causing the break of the output contact of the control unit.
  • Page 29: Maintenance

     In case of deep cuts and/or abrasions, the sensor should be sent to GAMMA SYSTEM for repair and verification that the internal contacts have not been damaged. GAMMA SYSTEM pressure-sensitive bumpers are resistant to all common mineral oils or emulsions used in the workshop and to all chemical cleaning products (see chemical compatibility table).
  • Page 30  WARNINGS: Only parts approved by Gamma System are to be replaced by the user. If non-approved spare parts are used or non-approved modifications are carried out, the device operation could be compromised. Failure to comply with these directions will void the certification and the warranty. Always contact GAMMA SYSTEM.

    In case of fault, the customer has the obligation to notify by fax the serial/identification number of the pressure-sensitive bumper as well the details of the fault to Gamma System. In order to use the warranty, notification shall be sent before the warranty expiration. The return of faulty pressure- sensitive bumper(s) during the period of warranty coverage shall be agreed upon with Gamma System which will issue a special code to authorize the return of goods.
