National Garage Merlin M842 Coding Instructions

Finding the Learn Button:
1. For Overhead/Panel Motors
a) If you have five exposed terminal screws at the rear, remove the small black cover to the right of the terminal
screws. The 'Learn' button is the red button under the black cover.
b) If you have four terminal screws at the rear, (possibly covered by a plastic panel) remove the lamp cover,
remove the red or green control panel cover, and find the small button marked 'Learn'.
c) If you have four covered terminal screws at the rear, and a Merlin wired wall switch attached to the motor, the
small button on the wall switch is the 'Learn' button.
2. For Roller Door Openers
a) If you have a single small square red button on the front, remove the lamp cover, and also the small black cover
to the left of the lamp holder. 'Learn' is the red button under the black cover.
b) If you have a large red or green push-switch on the front, remove the red or green panel, and find the small
button marked 'Learn'
c) If you have a large red or green push-switch on the front, and a Merlin wired wall switch attached to the motor,
the small button on the wall switch is the 'Learn' button.
3. On Other Receivers
a) If you have a dark grey boxed receiver with a large, round, green button, the 'Learn' button is the small dark
grey button inside the green button.
b) If you have a gate receiver card, the 'Learn' button is the tact switch on the PCB marked 'Learn'.
c) Otherwise, please see your receiver's user guide, or inspect it for a button marked 'Learn'.
Coding Your Transmitter into the Motor
1. Press the 'Learn' button for 1-2 seconds,
2. Press the desired transmitter button twice.
