The “Shepherd Orchestral Chanter” as the name implies is designed to be compatible with other musical instruments and will operate at a pitch of around 440Hz SETTING UP YOUR INSTRUMENT FOR CONCERT PITCH It is necessary to understand how the climatic conditions of the playing environment could have on your tuning.

STEP 2 Check the balance of pipe reed by mouth blowing reed with chanter. Mouth blow continuously low A and High A If using a tuner attempt to achieve a reading of around 442 Hz If you fail to have success at this stage try the basic rules, of either raising or lowering the reed, in the chanter.

When performing with this chanter, it should be remembered that your drone tuning position could be dramatically effected, especially if you have been tuning them to a “higher pitched chanter”. But it is always a good idea to have the drones tuning at their optimum length.
