  • Page 4 Welcome to your Hiberband Via gateway. Thanks for ordering your Hiberband Via gateway. It really is the easiest and most affordable way to create a private LoRaWAN network in remote locations. The Hiberband Via gateway connects to the internet via the Inmarsat satellite network, and can be powered by a renewable energy source such as solar.

    Via gateway and BGAN terminal in the field. Do not open the BGAN terminal enclosure without consulting Hiber. The enclosure has been waterproofed and opening it will compromise the waterproofing.
  • Page 11 GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITE CONNECTION. A Cobham Explorer 540 terminal is used to connect the Hiberband Via gateway to the Inmarsat satellite network. Inmarsat satellites are geostationary satellites, i.e. when looking from Earth into space the satellites are at a fixed point in the sky at all times. In order to establish a connection, the BGAN terminal needs to be pointed directly at the satellite.

  • Page 22 Grounding the Hiberband Via gateway and BGAN terminal to an electrical earth connection is strongly advised, especially where the LoRa antenna and/ or the Hiberband Via gateway and BGAN terminal are placed higher than surrounding objects. If an electrical earth connection isn’t available, connect to a large conducting surface like a metal beam which is connected to earth.

In order to quickly set up your Via gateway for testing purposes, we provide the following additional components: The Quick start LoRa antenna A09, which can be screwed directly onto the Via gateway connector A15.   • Page 28: Step 05: Pointing The Bgan Terminal

    STEP 05: POINTING THE BGAN TERMINAL. Once the Via gateway is powered, it will in turn power the BGAN terminal. The BGAN terminal LED between the cable glands will initially flash green while booting up, and then flash yellow while the BGAN produces a beeping sound. This means you can proceed with the BGAN pointing process below.

When the BGAN satellite connection is established successfully the LED status indicator on the Hiberband Via gateway will turn blue, indicating the system is powered, operational, and connected to the internet.

    STEP 6: CONNECTING TO THE HIBERBAND VIA GATEWAY WI-FI HOTSPOT. Once operational, the Hiberband Via gateway creates a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can use this to connect to the Via gateway and access the Via configuration page. From the configuration page you can add additional LoRaWAN devices, see the status of the system and safely reboot or shut down the Via gateway*.
  • Page 31 Alternatively, you can manually connect to the hotspot through the Wi-Fi settings on your device using the Wi-Fi SSID and password on the back page of this guide. Visit http://hiber.gateway in an internet browser to access the Via gateway configuration page. If you are unable to access this url, visit http://192.168.10.10/ instead.
