They could operate the power windows or other controls or even make the vehicle move. The windows will function with the keys in the ignition and children could be seriously injured or killed if caught in the path of a closing window.

    Your vehicle may have a remote start feature. This feature allows you to start the engine from outside the vehicle. It may also start the vehicle's heating or air conditioning systems. See for additional information. Laws in some local communities may restrict the use of remote starters.

    Unlocked doors can be dangerous. Passengers, especially children, can easily open the doors and fall out of a moving vehicle. When a door is locked, the handle will not open it. The chance of being thrown out of the vehicle in a crash is increased if the doors are not locked.

    The power door lock switches are located on the driver's and front passenger's door next to the door handle. Press the top of the switch to unlock the doors. Press the bottom of the switch to lock the doors. 3-10 This feature will delay the actual locking of the doors and liftgate when the power door lock switch or remote keyless entry transmitter is used to lock the vehicle.

    On vehicles with power door locks, the doors automatically lock when the shift lever is moved out of (P) Park for a vehicle with an automatic transmission. For a vehicle with a manual transmission, the speed must be greater than 5 mph (8 km/h). The automatic door locking feature cannot be disabled.

    To lock the liftgate from the outside, press the lock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. To unlock the liftgate with the RKE, press the unlock button twice within five seconds. For more information, . You can also use the power door lock switch to lock and unlock the liftgate.

They can be overcome by the extreme heat and suffer permanent injuries or even death from heat stroke. Never leave a child, a helpless adult, or a pet alone in a vehicle, especially with the windows closed in warm or hot weather.

    The driver's window switch has an express-down feature that allows the window to be lowered without holding the switch. Press the switch part way, and the driver's window will open a small amount. Press the switch down all the way, release it, and the window will go down automatically.

    Your vehicle may have a content theft-deterrent alarm system. To arm the system: 1. Turn the ignition off. 2. Press lock on the RKE transmitter. The system will arm after either of the following occur: 30 seconds after all the doors are closed. 60 seconds with any door open.
  • Page 132 To turn off the system alarm, do one of the following: Press the lock button on the RKE transmitter. The system will then re-arm itself. Press the unlock button on the RKE transmitter. This will also disarm the system. Insert the key in the ignition and turn it on. This will also disarm the system.
  • Page 133 If the engine still does not start, and the key appears to be undamaged, try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuse, see . If the engine still does not start with the other key, your vehicle needs service. If your vehicle does start, the first key may be faulty.

  • Page 135 The ignition switch has four different positions. In order to shift out of P (Park), the ignition must be in ON/RUN or ACC/ACCESSORY and the brake pedal must be applied. This position locks the steering column when the key is removed. The key can only be removed in LOCK/OFF.
  • Page 136 This is the position in which you can operate the electrical accessories and to display some instrument panel cluster warning and indicator lights. The switch stays in this position when the engine is running. If you leave the key in the ACC/ACCESSORY or ON/RUN position with the engine off, the battery could be drained.

    The engine coolant heater can provide easier starting and better fuel economy during engine warm up in cold weather condition at or below 0°F ( 18°C). Vehicles with am engine coolant heater should be plugged in at least four hours before starting. An internal thermostat in the plug-end of the cord may exist which will prevent engine coolant heater operation at temperatures above 0°F ( 18°C).
  • Page 140 If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, the shift lever is located on the console between the seats. There are several different positions for the automatic transmission. This position locks the front wheels. It is the best position to use when starting the engine because the vehicle cannot move easily.
  • Page 141 Make sure the shift lever is fully in P (Park) before starting the engine. The vehicle has an automatic transmission shift lock control system. You have to fully apply the regular brakes first and then press the shift lever button before the vehicle can shift from P (Park) when the ignition key is in ON/RUN.

If you need more power for passing and you are: Going less than about 35 mph (55 km/h), push the accelerator pedal about halfway down.   • Page 145 If the vehicle has a manual transmission, there may be an up-shift light. This light will show you when to shift to the next higher gear for the best fuel economy. When this light comes on, you can shift to the next higher gear if weather, road, and traffic conditions let you.

    To utilize this feature: 1. Accelerate the vehicle by fully depressing the accelerator pedal. 2. Just prior to reaching the maximum engine speed, quickly complete the upshift utilizing the clutch while keeping the accelerator pedal fully applied. A quicker shift maneuver gives the best performance.
  • Page 147 If the front passenger seat back is folded down, the armrest may make it awkward to grab and pull up the parking brake lever. If the lever is not pulled up far enough, the vehicle may roll and you or others could be injured. Move your hand lower on the lever or raise the seat back so that you can set the brake.
  • Page 148 It can be dangerous to get out of the vehicle if the shift lever is not fully in P (Park) with the parking brake firmly set. The vehicle can roll. If you have left the engine running, the vehicle can move suddenly.
  • Page 149 If you are parking on a hill and you do not shift into P (Park) properly, the weight of the vehicle may put too much force on the parking pawl in the transmission. You may find it difficult to pull the shift lever out of P (Park). This is called torque lock.
  • Page 150 If the vehicle has an uncharged battery or a battery with low voltage, try charging or jump starting the battery. To shift out of P (Park): 1. Apply the brake pedal. 2. Then press the shift lever button. 3. Move the shift lever to the desired position. If you still are unable to shift out of P (Park): 1.

    Engine exhaust contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which cannot be seen or smelled. Exposure to CO can cause unconsciousness and even death. Exhaust may enter the vehicle if: The vehicle idles in areas with poor ventilation (parking garages, tunnels, deep snow that may block underbody airflow or tail pipes).
  • Page 152 It is better not to park with the engine running. But if you ever have to, here are some things to know. Idling a vehicle in an enclosed area with poor ventilation is dangerous. Engine exhaust may enter the vehicle. Engine exhaust contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) which cannot be seen or smelled.

    Hold the inside rearview mirror in the center to move it for a clearer view behind your vehicle. Adjust the mirror to avoid glare from the headlamps behind you. Push the tab forward for daytime use and pull it for nighttime use. If the vehicle has map lamps, press the buttons located at the bottom of the mirror to turn them on or off.
  • Page 154 If after a few seconds the display does not show a compass direction, (N for North for example), there may be a strong magnetic field interfering with the compass. Interference can be caused by a magnetic antenna mount, note pad holder, or similar object. If CAL appears in the compass window, the compass may need to be reset or calibrated.
  • Page 155: Outside Power Mirrors

    Controls for the outside power mirrors are located on the driver door armrest. 1. Press the left or right side of the selector switch located beneath the control pad, to select the driver or passenger mirror. 2. Press one of the four buttons located on the control pad to move the mirror to the desired direction.
  • Page 156: Rear Vision Camera (Rvc)

    The vehicle may have a Rear Vision Camera system. Read this entire section before using it. The Rear Vision Camera (RVC) system does not replace driver vision. RVC does not: Detect objects that are outside the camera's field of view, below the bumper, or underneath the vehicle.
  • Page 157 To turn off the rear vision camera system, press and hold , located on the inside rearview mirror, until the left indicator light turns off. The rear vision camera display is now disabled. To turn the rear vision camera system on again, press and hold until the left indicator light illuminates.

    The rear vision camera system display in the rearview mirror may turn off or not appear as expected due to one of the following conditions. If this occurs the left indicator light on the mirror will flash. A slow flash may indicate a loss of video signal, or no video signal present during the reverse cycle.

    The vehicle could also have two rear storage areas that can be used for small items. 3-48 The vehicle could have an adjustable panel/cargo cover feature. The panel/cargo cover can be adjusted into four positions.
  • Page 161 To use the panel in the lowest position: The panel can be used in this position if additional space above the panel is needed. Cargo can be placed on top of the panel in this position. 1. Insert the front corners of the panel into the lower guides.

    The center position is with the front corners placed in the lower guides and the rear corners placed in the upper guides. Do not load cargo on the panel in this position. The last position is with the front corners in the lower guides, panel sideways, closest to the rear seat for subfloor access.

    For vehicles with a roof rack, the rack can be used to load items. For roof racks that do not have crossrails included, GM Certified crossrails can be purchased as an accessory. See your dealer/retailer for additional information. To prevent damage or loss of cargo when driving, check to make sure crossrails and cargo are securely fastened.

    There is a rod that hooks into place to prop open the lid. Push the rod towards the lid to unhook it and lower the lid. 3-52 The vehicle may have a power sunroof. The switches that operate the sunroof are located in the headliner.
  • Page 165 To express open the power sunroof, fully press the driver's side switch rearward once. To stop the sunroof glass in a desired position other than to the express-open position, press the switch again, in either direction, to stop the movement. If the sunshade is in the closed position, it will open with the sunroof, or it can be opened manually.
