Explanation of symbols Safety instructions in this manual are marked by symbols that express the extent of the danger. DANGER Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WARNING Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
Correct purpose of use The Sky-Frame Operator (SFO) is a constituent of the Sky-Frame system. The operator and the system are exclusively designed and constructed for the intended purpose of use that is described in this document.
Depending on the structural situation, the design version and the protection options, residual dangers cannot be ruled out. The following applies to the use of the Sky-Frame Operator: Entrapment protection is to be ensured by use of dead man’s switch operation (see also “2.4 Operating types and operating modes”).
Danger areas The marked points in the illustration show the potential danger areas of the system, where there is a risk of injury to persons in the event of improper behaviour. Between top edge of leaf and runner when closing...
Liability restriction All information and notes in this manual have been put together taking the applicable standards and regulations, the state of technology, knowledge and many years of experience into consideration. The manufacturer does not accept liability for damage caused by: Failure to follow the instructions in the manual •...
There must not be any objects obstructing the movement area of the door. • After installation, the settings and the operation of the Sky-Frame Operator must be checked, and if • need be those of its additional safety equipment as well.
The SFO-M (Master) plays a defined part due to the assignment of a specific motor address. In this way, it can be connected with up to 5 additional SFO-S (Slave) via a bus line to form a telescopic system with a maximum of three sliding panels to the left and three sliding panels to the right (3+3).
Performance ranges Full energy mode (dead man’s switch operation = as-delivered status) In this mode, the sliding panel only moves for as long as the control button is pressed. If the control button is released, the movement of the panel(s) stops. This makes it possible to move to any opening position. The entire system must be visible from the control button.
Functions in dead man’s switch operating mode Sky-Frame systems with a Sky-Frame Operator can be operated as follows. Opening the door by hand Manual operation also remains possible in the event of a power failure (see also document “User Manual: Power-operated sliding doors”).
Page 15
Opening and closing the system using the OPEN / CLOSE button • A double click of the OPEN button (two quick successive pushes + hold) opens the FIRST front panels of the system (A). • A continuous push of the CLOSE button closes the ENTIRE system (B + A).
A maximum of 150 N (15 kg / 33 lbs) is reached during the opening and closing run. Sky-Frame Operator is subject to the following directives: • UL 325 Sky-Frame Operator has been checked for continuous operation up to 20,000 opening cycles and has a power shut-off (without slip). Opening run If the sliding panel encounters an obstruction during the opening run, the sliding panel stops until the button is released and pushed again.

The button interface (see 8.5) for connecting the control button (see 8.3) is only in the connection service opening of the SFO-M (Master) that opens first ( A ). Addressing The addresses of the drives are set using the DIP switch on the outside of the drive housing.

Installation instructions The ideal installation procedure The ideal installation procedure for a Sky-Frame system with Sky-Frame Operator looks as follows: 1. Install frame (see “Frame installation” Chap. 13.1) In case of frame joints, pull in the belt and connect it, as well introduce the drive-cables (see 6.3).
Installing the drive belt with frame joints If a drive belt leads through a profile joint, the belt must be pulled in and connected at the construction site. Frame assembly: When the frame is being assembled using jointed drive profiles, it must be ensured that adhesive (Polyflex) is only applied in the vicinity of the joint connection.
Page 24
Loosen belt clamping plate slightly and push in direction of drive by hand. Insert drive belt into centre flange from belt tensioner side with back of belt facing centre flange. RISK OF FAULT The belt must not twist when it is being moved into the...
Page 25
Fix flanged disk in position. Pull a piece of shrinkage tube over the drive belt and plug it into the belt lock. Hook drive belt into belt lock at both sides. Heat shrinkage tube with a hot air dryer to secure the connection.
Use of drive in rooms with high humidity (pool) System with a drive that are located in rooms with high humidity (pool) have an expansion milling on the outer area of the drive cover that is protected with a filter mat.
Inserting the glass Important note: The glass material shall comply with class A rating in ANSI Z97.1 “Methods of test for safety glazing material used in building”. Set mounting position of the bar with belt lock The “bar with belt lock” must be pushed all the way into the closed position, up to the frame with edge locks.
Creating space for profile installation The sliding element (glass with GRP frame) must be pushed away so there is room for installing the profile. Installation of first-opening sliding element ( A ) With first-opening sliding elements the “follower with carriage” is screwed to the end cap of the locking profile in the factory and only has to be connected to the drive belt via the “bar with belt lock”...
Page 29
Securing the locking profile and the follower to the bar with the locking mechanism: First remove the two countersunk head screws that are in the brass carriage, then lift the brass carriage onto the bar at the top and screw in place.
Page 30
Control of the running characteristics: Now that the glass is resting on the running gear and is connected to the drive belt, it must be checked with a spring balance or force sensor that the max. operating force of the sliding element is 150 N.
Installation of further sliding elements The followers of the further sliding elements are already pre-installed. Installation procedure: First check of running characteristics: The glass which has already been inserted must first be checked manually for ease of movement of the sliding element [OK?].

Connecting facility at drive hood The customer power supply and button connection only takes place on the SFO-M (Master) drive ( A ). Example: 2-track system with A+B drive The drive housing provides two 22 mm holes to allow the installer to fit the intended conduits for field wiring.
2x normally open (NO), locked The control voltage for the Class 2 (24 VDC) button is provided by the Sky-Frame Operator (terminal 1 / 3). The button is directly connected to terminals 1 / 2 and 3 of the button interface.
Connect to PC • A PC / laptop can be connected to the SFO-M button interface via the service adapter (see 10.3) and therefore communicate with all connected bus subscribers (other drives) via the common bus protocol in order to parametrise them.
Mains voltage connection The control button is only connected with the SFO-M (Master) drive ( A ). All work steps are explained on the example of the depicted telescopic corner system. 1. Opening of the service cover Slacken the four screws on the service cover (=smaller cover) and remove the service cover.

3. Connecting the empty conduits: The drive housing provides two 22 mm holes to allow the installer to fit the intended conduits for field wiring, one for Mains Connections, the other one for a Class 2 wall control switch.

5. Inserting the button interface: First clip the support plate with the button interface into the service opening [1]. Then plug in the flat cable and the device plug [2]. IMPORTANT: Store the cable in the service opening as carefully as possible, otherwise damage or malfunctions may occur.

Maintenance 11.1 Adjusting the belt tension The drive belt is tensioned via the clamping plate using the screwdriver Nr. 6. Then re-tighten the two clamping screws. Re-tighten the two hexagon socket screws after tensioning. RISK OF FAULT The tension of the belt must not exceed 36 ft-lb (160 N), otherwise there is a risk of damage to the gearbox bearings.
11.2 Replacing a drive To replace a defective drive, proceed as follows: Slacken belt tensioner (11.1) Remove flanged disk of affected drive. Remove the four screws from the drive cover. Remove drive cover and suspend from drive belt. Disconnect drive connector.
11.3 Troubleshooting The functionality of all Sky-Frame Operator drives has been checked in the factory before delivery. Quick troubleshooting: Disconnect system from the mains voltage. Open small service cover at the SFO-M (Master) drive ( A ). Check whether all plug-in connections are attached to the designated connections.
