Constant Angular Velocity (CAV) Recording Technology The CRW-5224A drive employs the Constant Angular Velocity (CAV) recording method. With CAV recording, the drive spindle motor rotates the disc at the same speed regardless of the radial position of the pickup head. This means that there is a higher transfer rate when writing data to the outer tracks of the disc than to the inner tracks, as the head traverses a longer linear path on the outer than the inner part of the disc.
