Chapter 3. Basic operations

Connect external devices through the USB connector

If an external device features a USB plug or if it includes a USB cable, you may connect the external device
with your computer through the USB connector.
Step 1.
Plug the external device into the USB connector on your computer directly or with a USB cable.If
you're connecting a USB mass storage device and it support USB 3.0 standard, plug it into the
USB 3.0 connector on your computer.
Note: Some external devices include separate power cords, you may need to connect them to
power before plugging them into the USB connector on your computer. Refer to the documentation
of the external device for direction.
Step 2.
Wait for Windows to install drivers for the device. If Windows cannot install driver for the device,
you may need to install it separately. Refer to the documentation of the external device for
direction.

Disconnect an external device from the USB connector

Before disconnecting an external device from the USB connector, make sure it has finished transmitting data
with your computer.
Step 1.
Click the Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media icon (in the Windows notification area) and
select Eject media.
Step 2.
Unplug the device or the USB cable.

Plug in an Ethernet cable

Step 1.
Hold the plug of an Ethernet cable and use it to gently press down the connector cover on the
computer.
Step 2.
Fully insert the plug into the RJ-45 connector.

Put your computer to sleep

If you have finished using your computer but plans to resume use shortly after, put it to sleep mode.
Windows 7
Step 1.
In the lower left corner of the desktop, click Start ➙ Sleep.
Windows 10
Step 2.
In the lower left corner of the desktop, click Start ➙ Power ➙ Sleep. Wait until the power light
starts blinking (indicating that the computer is in sleep mode) before moving your computer.
Otherwise, the hard disk drive may be damaged.
Note: By default, pressing the Power button or closing the LCD cover puts the computer to sleep
mode. You can also change its behavior in the Control Panel.
To wake the computer from sleep mode, do one of the following:
Press the Power button.
