MAC Address, Network Protocols, IP Address, Network Name, and Protocol Parameters (like Subnet Mask). You can use the M.A.Ch.10/100 wire map and cable test capabilities to find problems in the wiring infrastructure (Channel Link), local loop back cable, or patch cables. The cable features can determine wire map errors, over length cables, and can detect shorts or opens on the cable.
Before installing the M.A.Ch.10/100 software, you must first have your H/PC device set up according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you experience problems connecting your H/PC, please contact its manufacturer directly. The M.A.Ch.10/100 will run on a variety of Windows CE 2.0 and 3.0 devices. Please see the “readme.txt” or the www.datacom.textron.com Web site for a current list of compliant devices.

To install the software on your workstation, Place the M.A.Ch.10/100 Installation CD in the CD-ROM drive of the desktop computer. Click Start and select Run from the Start menu. Browse to the CD-ROM drive and double-click on Setup.exe. Click OK and when prompted, select either Windows 95/98 or Windows CE installation.
Creating a New Site The first thing you need to do is to configure the M.A.Ch.10/100 for the site being tested. You can set up as many new sites as you want. You can use the default site that comes with the M.A.Ch.10/100 software or you can set up your own custom site.
Page 11

However, if you normally will be looking for network information or devices as your primary function, select the Map View radio button. When you start the M.A.Ch.10/100 software, the device will automatically start discovering information about your network. Map View Select either Standard View or Map View to be displayed at startup.
9. Click the IP Setup Properties The M.A.Ch.10/100 allows the user to specify which IP settings will be used when getting onto the local network. The IP settings are saved as Site specific data, allowing you to have specific IP addresses, DNS and gateway information for each site that you maintain.

Specific, or Global Host list of IP Hosts. Once these lists have been configured, you can have the M.A.Ch.10/100 run the Multi-Ping list and verify that all required devices are on-line and accessible for the network segment you are plugged into.
Menus The M.A.Ch.10/100 user interface has three main pull-down menus: File, Tools and Help. To the right of these menus are toolbar menus that also allow you to access the main toolboxes of the device. File Menu The following options are available on the File menu: Start a new project.
Toolbars The M.A.Ch.10/100 toolbar contains the following buttons: New Project Starts a new site project. Open Project Opens an existing site database. Save Project Saves the current site database. The toner feature requires a tone probe that will detect the signal being emitted from the wire plugged into the Cable Test Jack on the M.A.Ch.10/100. This feature is especially useful when doing Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs).
Running the Send Tone Test To run the test: 1. Connect the patch cable to the Cable Jack of the M.A.CH.10/100 to the wall jack or the cable you want to trace. Make sure that the far end connection of the cable under test is not plugged into a device (i.e., hub, etc.)
Identifying a Hub port When the M.A.Ch.10/100 is plugged into the wall jack using the Network Jack, it sends out a pulse that identifies which hub port a system is plugged into by blinking the port on the hub.
The Port Capabilities utility identifies which type of device is connected to a port and the network capability of that port. To run the Port Capabilities test: 1. Connect a patch cable from the Cable Jack of your M.A.CH.10/100 unit to the port you want to test. 2. Click Start to begin.
TCP/IP Ping Identifies workstations, servers, gateways and other communications paths. 1. Connect one end of cable to the Network Jack of the M.A.CH.10/100 and the other end to the network segment that you want to test. 2. To access the Ping tab, select TCP/IP under the Tools menu or click the icon.
This feature is extremely useful for the verifying successful communications with all pertinent hosts. For example, a host list might include all servers requiring access by users on this subnet, including fileservers, gateways, bridges, routers, print servers, email servers, DHCP servers and other specialized IP servers. The Global List resides externally to the M.A.Ch.10/100 software and cannot be edited from within the M.A.Ch.10/100 software. Both the Global List and the Site List are easiest to edit from a normal laptop or workstation keyboard. See the “readme.txt”...

4. Enter either the Host Name or the Host IP address of the computer whose network route you wish to trace. 5. Click the Start button. The magnifying glass appears as M.A.Ch.10/100 sends a packet and takes note of the route it takes. As the trace begins, you can see each...
DNS, and any subnet masks detected. You are also notified of the total number of devices that responded to the test. 1. Connect the Network Jack of the M.A.CH.10/100 to a network segment with the appropriate cable. 2. To access the DHCP tab, select DHCP under the Tools menu or click the icon.
3. Click Duplicate IP. The Duplicate IP property tab screen appears. Duplicate IP 4. Click the Start button. The M.A.Ch.10/100 reports back on all the IP addresses it located. The results display in the Test Results area on the right-hand side of the screen.
Class B - all addresses between 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255 Class C - all addresses 192.0.0.0 and above This distinction is becoming less important, but it is used in the M.A.Ch.10/100 designer in order to establish the default Subnet Mask. Subnet Mask Subnet Mask is used to segment the range of IP addresses into different network segments.

Network Stats (Statistics) The M.A.Ch.10/100 measures key network statistics such as Network Utilization (over time shown in the form of a Histogram), Error Rate, Broadcast Rate, Top Talkers/Conversations, Protocol Analysis and Error Analysis. These tests are run over time to verify the health and efficiency of the network and pinpoint potential problems.

The feature is very useful when running extended captures, such as an overnight capture, to determine specific network congestion problems or overly high network errors (set under options).
You will see the same time under Received Time that you noted on the Network Monitor Histogram screen under Line At. Use the Previous and Next buttons to move through this report. M.A.Ch.10/100 Diagnostic Analyzer 09/00...
Top Talkers/Conversations Screen Building Your Network Database The M.A.Ch.10/100 product has a few special features that allow the user to gain and maintain additional information about any workstation. The manufacturer of the network interface is determined by the MAC address that has been registered world wide with the IEEE organization.
These settings are established by selecting your desired interval in the Monitor Report Rate box under on the General tab screen under the Options menu.
