Using the host computer's mouse or arrow keys, highlight the Files item and press <ENTER>. Pressing <F> (for
Files) on the keyboard will also open the Files menu. The screen should now look like this:
Fig. 2:
"Files" Menu
Notice the File : None in the lower left corner of the screen. This indicates that there is no customer record currently
loaded into the program. Highlight New (or press <N> for New) under the Files menu. This creates a blank customer
record that will be selected to become our fictional customer record. The lower left corner should now look something
like this:
File : C:\WHELEN\MPC00000.BLK
The first customer record is automatically given the computer file name MPC00000.BLK when it is created (when NEW
has been pressed). The next customer record created will have the computer file name MPC00001.BLK, and so on.
The computer file name displayed in this area identifies the computer file (customer record) that is currently loaded into
the software. NOTE: A computer file must be loaded into the software before it can be viewed or edited. This is
how the software identifies individual customer records. It is not necessary for the programmer to use this, as the
customer's name will be used to identify the customer record to the programmer.
The next section will explain how to enter the customer information for our fictional customer record.

Entering customer information...

With computer file MPC00000.BLK loaded, highlight Edit and press <ENTER> (or press <E> for Edit). Now from the
sub-menu, highlight Edit and press <ENTER> (or press <E> for Edit). The "Customer Information" screen is now
displayed.
