SOUTHERN AVIONICS COMPANY 1 Introduction The SAC “H” (helipad) antenna is a low frequency radiobeacon antenna designed for installation around the perimeter of the helicopter landing decks of offshore platforms and drilling ships. The antenna is composed of 1/8”, 6x7 fiber core, phosphor bronze wire rope suspended on insulators approximately 7.5 feet (2.2 meters) outboard from the heliport deck.

SOUTHERN AVIONICS COMPANY 17. Attach the feed insulator to the antenna coupler using the insulator mounting bracket. 18. Pass the antenna wire thought the insulator clevis and around the wire thimble. Take up excess slack in the antenna wire, bend the wire back, and secure the antenna wire with the antenna lead with 2 split blts.
SOUTHERN AVIONICS COMPANY 4 TUNE-UP Tune-up of the transmitter to the helipad antenna is performed according to the procedure listed in the transmitter manual for tune-up to an unknown antenna. The initial tap selection may be an intermediate value between that listed for the 90 Foot Tower antenna and that of the Symmetrical “T”...

SOUTHERN AVIONICS COMPANY 5 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE 1. Maintain all insulator surfaces of the antenna and antenna coupler free of all contamination, salt spray, and paint. Any contamination on the insulator will cause reduced reception range of the radiobeacon signal, turning problems and broadband RFI, especially during damp weather. As required, the insulators should be cleaned by first turning off the radiobeacon and then cleaning the insulators with fresh water.
